Wimbledon in uhd via the iPlayer on the BT boxes is now working. Slow to get there but managed it eventually.

Confirmed - watching it now on my T4000.

Oddly, *something* is causing my TV to reconfigure when I start and/or stop the stream, but I'm not getting any sort of HDR. Anyone know if there is supposed to be HDR on this feed via Youview?

The only other time I see my TV do this is when it switches to/from HDR mode on the Netflix app, so I can't figure out if it's a bug on the Wimbledon feed.

Unfortunately the BT box does not do HDR so is only UHD SDR, on this box anyway ;)

You can enjoy the new upgrade on our apps (iOS, Android, Samsung tv, Apple TV, Xbox, PlayStation) when we launch. But I’m afraid hardware takes longer to develop and we didn’t want to keep the millions of people who use the app to watch content to be held back by that.
Understand it’s frustrating but as I say, we are working on it 🙂

This is just a general statement not directed at anyone at all:

"If someone or no one was testing a new 4K box potentially with HDR can you please insist they sort out the soft picture on the new box that doesn't exist?"

I think that covers it.  ;)

And by soft I'm guessing you mean the poor HD picture output from the current 4K box. It's nothing near the quality of my previous T2100.

Yep. I have a T4000, T2100, T2200 and a retail T2000 in the house and the T4000 has the worst picture quality.

    Hi all,

I‘Ve acquired a new Somy Bravia TV. I’m also in the probably unusual situation where my broadband speed isn’t adequate to support UHD but I do have a T4000 box as supplied by BT themselves whilst they were investigating an unrelated issue.

I have experimented with switching the box output between 4K and 1080p and discovered that the HD content when using the 4K output config is actually very poor whereas if I switch the output to 1080p the HD image on the new TV is outstanding.

Having played around some more I have come to the conclusion that the detail/sharpness enhancement algorithm as used by the TV is dependant on the resolution of the incoming signal and in 4K mode is applying correction to much finer detail which clearly doesn’t exist in an HD( or SF for that matter) signal.

SkyHD boxes used to allow the box output to switch modes when changing between SD and HD. This meant the TV took care of scaling and picture enhancements but many people found the screen blanking while the change took place disconcerting and thereby accepted a compromise of reduced quality for SD channels by leaving the box output fixed at 1080.

It appears to be the case that subjectively watching HD content on the 4K config is the inferior option and why the original poster probably sees this problem.

    Hope this makes sense

    Likewise
    But it's not that unusual

They harp on about how 90% of the country has access to fiber broadband, which is really annoying if your the 10% who haven't.

Purchased Sony 49" 4k tv knowing 4k wasn't going to happen.

The upscale on HD more then compensates for this.

When I first logged on to Netflix it immediately said did I want to upgrade to 4k so obviously there is difference watching TV through a T4000 box on a 4k set with standard broadband.

Would say to anyone thinking of buying a TV invest in a 4k, they really are superior.

My line only manages a little below 16Mb so UHD from BT is never going to happen. I’m about 2 miles from the cabinet and the handback on the line is 12Mb so this is as good as it gets for me (no VM in our area).

That said the Amazon app on the TV will happily play UHD/HDR content with no issues so I get some 4K content.

The internal decoder on the TV does a great job on HD because it clearly knows what the source content is but the Humax FV/YV boxes don’t make that good a job which is a shame.

I’d agree largely with your last comment but I’d add that don’t accept the hype about them being perfect out of the box. They’re set up by default to look good in the shop but in the main you need to turn off all the so called ‘picture enhancements’ to get to something that looks right. Having said that this is the first TV that I’ve had that has needed very little by way of calibration.

Would love to be near a cabinet,

bizarrely we are connected directly to the exchange so apparently fibre is never going to happen.

But like I sald the new Sony 4k is a vast improvement over its predecessor so you never miss what you never had.

So how far away are you from the exchange?

Also, if your line is supplied by BT OverReach you can pop your phone number in here to see how you are connected, what services are available to you, and predicted speeds as well as your "observed" connection speed.

    Less then half a mile,

BT in the early days just used to say give us your e mail and we'll notify you when it's coming to your area, they don't even bother saying that now.

Not complaining as ADSL works great except through pla's,  never had a fault free relationship with the bedroom youview box.

@WilfH Unfortunately, as you've now found out, the T4000 does a terrible job with HD with the box set to output 4K. The only 'solution' is to manually change output depending on the incoming resolution, but that's a bit of a faff. The Apple TV 4K for instance can be set to match range and frame rate which means a 1080p signal being output as such, and 4K being output as 4K, leaving your tv to do any necessary scaling. That's the ideal way to have things set up, but not something possible with the T4000 (among other devices may I add).
