I'm pleased to say I've had a fault free experience, first with the T2100, and now the T4000 BT boxes. I also have 2 other devices connected at the same time. I insist on buying TP-Link equipment but that's purely down to my own stress free experience with them.
It would be fair to add though there are others who don't have as much luck with PLAs for whatever reason. Everyones situation is different.
"Flash, Flash, I love you, but we only have 14 hours to save the Earth"
I’ve used Aztech ones and this wasn’t a good experience because multicast packets kept being missed. My belief is that this is vey much down to distance between units and whether your mains wiring is electrical noise free. This is less likely to be the case in older properties.
Worth saying that I’m still using the PLAs but only to feed other kit which is relying only on TCP rather than IGMP. This has proved completely reliable though I do see the indicators on the unit change from time to time to indicate the quality of the signal is changing. The built in resilience of TCP can handle some packet loss whereas IGMP requires 100% throughput.
Watching live broadcasts using PLAs tend to be less reliable for me. Catchup services are generally fine only with the odd buffering incident. My internet connection is fast enough so I put it down to the old wiring.
Ever had a fault free experience using a youview box with these?
Might be worth pointing out here that anyone using a retail YV box with PLAs should be completely trouble free. Only boxes supplied by BT and TalkTallk which have IGMP subscription channels are likely to experience difficulties.

Thankfully I have had zero issues with TP-Link PLAs and BT subscription boxes, so far at least.

I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.
I think it's fair to say that in general PLAs work fine for MOST users be they TV, Youview , Panasonic, Humax etc users for catchup services. It does all depend on the quality of the mains circuitry and what other devices might be plugged in as some devices might cause interference.
The multicast transmission that some subscription services (not the likes of Netflix, Prime etc) use is more demanding , partly because there is no error checking and retransmission of errored data.
The only way you know is to suck it and see.
For me they work fine , although I'm hardwired now , but for my son in a 25 year old property they failed miserably.

Thanks Tim. Your comments are spot on. All I would clarify here is that the only subscription services I’m currently aware of that rely on IGMP are actually the extra channels which BT and TAlkTalk supply via the YouView platform. For that reason YV users with retail boxes without such services are unlikely to have problems with PLAs.

@Visionman took issue with the statement: "Only boxes supplied by BT and TalkTallk which have IGMP subscription channels are likely to experience difficulties." which is nonsense. They *may* experience difficulties but they certainly are not *likely* to experience difficulties.

Nope. You get the same IGMP issues on the retail boxes.
Not everyone uses the box supplied by the ISP to watch their Multicast channels.
I'm amazed anyone who subscribes to Talktalk TV uses the Huawei boxes. I used a retail T2000 on Talktalk TV. The channels played much better but suffered the same IGMP issues with cheap incompatible Powerline Adapters.
I prefer my newer BT T2100 over all the other boxes, though haven't tried the T4000.

My mistake. I had wrongly assumed that people who subscribe to TT or BT would be using provided hardware as opposed to retail.
My point really was that anyone who aren’t using IGMP subscription services should find PLAs reliable.
@goodbye is quite right. Another factor is what’s actually connected to your mains supply. Anything which can cause noise on the mains or spikes will potentially cause lost data packets and thereby cause drop-outs and pixelation of subscription channels.
So @WilfH You feel it's ok for you to state your opinion yet you don't want me to mention the reality of my actual experience. I hadn't realised you had rewritten the forum rules
You said "My point really was that anyone who aren’t using IGMP subscription services should find PLAs reliable"
I'm saying "My point really is that anyone using IGMP subscription services should find PLAs reliable". I'm just one proof of that, and I know everyone else in my social circle using the same technology under the same conditions can confirm the same.

Re Tp-link.
Noticed they make a wifi extender with a ethernet port.
Gets mixed reviews but not to try is not to know.

Mine was a question not a statement and the Wilf was pointing out they shouldn't be troublesome.
Either way neither was a sweeping statement worthy of a binary response.

I'm using an IGMP subscription service (BT) T4000 and before that a T2100 with ZERO issues.
