So, I was told I could get two power adapters to save using wires. I was informed that I do not have to use the main plug on the wall for one of the adapters. I can use an extension but it turns out I cannot use an extension lead socket. I do not have a double plug socket near my router so I’ll have to use a long lead which is daft.

Welcome to the forum. You could try with extension lead socket. It has worked on our downstairs setup with no problems. Who gave you the information? The trick is to pair the power line correctly with all the others in your setup. They all use the same electricity from your ringmain ,as long as you keep it switched on all the time. Go and test it. You have nothing to lose. Worth a try. Let the forum know how you get on. Hope it works! John L

Most PLA's come with a socket attached anyway so you wouldn't need a extension.
Maybe they purchased something like this (I use these myself)?

Yes, I agree with not using a long extension lead. But, I thought Caroline19 was refering to a solution such as: trailing 4/6way socket with say 1-2 metres of cable on it? To overcome problem with lack of mains sockets?
This would solve her problem & woud not affect long cable distance. From an electrician point of view, fitting a extra 2 gang socket would make no difference, as it is the cable run that would be the factor involved. As long as the powerline unit can pick up mains current "signal" to pair it, should be no problem. John L
Your extension cable would then plug into your PLA, not the other way around. It works 😀
Yes if you can afford £84+ for these. The other ones can be purchased for a lot less. I managed to obtain mine for less than £25 shopping around. Caroline19 may have already purchased them & hence maybe too late to return for refund/exchange. Often you have to make do with what you can afford/equipment you have available. Ideally the Youview boxes should have WIFI built in FREE! The Youview boxes cost enough in the first place if purchased at full price or when paying loads of money for a subscription each month!

PLA's do not work for everyone, they might sound great on paper but they are only as good as your house wiring.
Old house,poor wiring then you will probably be better off getting something with wifi capabilities.
I have a T4000 in the bedroom blighted by PLA's which I use to record and watch TV as catch up etc is unwatchable
streaming is through my wireless £20 roku box and is perfection personified.
Why roku can do it and Humax can't is one of lifes mysteries.
I bought the AV 600 TP - link... Next to the router in the hallway has only one wall socket, closest to that one is end of he hall.
The YouView box in the lounge, so I plugged the main link into the wall which is fine. I live in a flat.
I just wasn’t sure as I was told by one person an extension lead is fine, and another told me no.

Have you got it working now? Your photo shows a Powerline adaptor & an Extender. A brilliant purchase! Both will work fine with the Youview box + any other devices you use when you add more. The extender (AV-600) will be ideal either as Powerline adaptor or as designed an extender for bad signals if used at other end of home away from the router. You can also run another enternet cable off this (all clearly explained in the instructions) I use a similar extender upstairs. It doubles as an extender plus a powerline adaptor for 2 devices I use.
YES, you can use a trailing socket (4/6 way) say 1-2 meters length plugged into your socket, simply to expand your single/twin mains socket. But NOT a long cable run: i.e. 10/20 meters, that you use for DIY etc. Powerline signal would therefore become very weak, as you are creating a "Spur" in your ring main instead of keeping signal within the ring main. Hope this makes some sense?(!)
So if you haven't set it up yet, here is a basic setup to help you:
At your Youview box, plug in a trailing socket (ideally has enough outlets for other devices, so 4 or 6 way), then plug in one of your powerline adaptors & also the tv & Youview plugs, as you mention you don't have enough mains sockets nearby. Hopefully this makes sense so far? It's all in the TP-Link instructions for general setup. Then run a enternet cable (supplied with Powerline adaptor) to your Router. If the router is in another room, no problem, simply plug in one of the powerline adaptors with the router.
Basically what you are doing, once you have followed the pairing instructions supplied for the powerline adaptor, is to "clone" the powerline's code from the ring main/other powerline adaptors (if set up previously) in your home to another powerline adaptor in another room, without all the bother of running broadband cables around the home. Once you have mastered this Caroline, you can add more to other rooms at a later date. It's a brilliant system that works for extending your wifi range + adding broadband to other rooms. Thank you. Yes I had plugged in and enjoying being able to record again and also watch Netflix and so on. I have a 3 way extension, all plugs used being phone, router and of course the power line. The larger power line is on the wall plug attached to the YouView box.
Happy days I think. Seems to have lost 11 channels on youview in the process but I shall embark and accomplish.
