I agree with much of what @Visionman says there. Who is going to buy a box when you can get it at no, or reduced cost? I wonder if the market may improve slightly now that BT boxes are no longer yours to keep and former subscribers look elsewhere?

Does the T3-R do any sort of padding for recording times, either automatically or manually?

I use this app all the time, and was amazed when I got the message about it ending, I was just thinking the other day what great setup it is, sending recordings to the box from my phone, perfect! Great if your away, or even just don't want to put on the tv and box.

I have looked and can find no real alternative.

Please reconsider this backward step Youview!

Just binned one of my YouView boxes! Got a Freesat one instead, which does still have a great app! And way more apps!

Won't work with an aerial though ....

Quite impressed with Manhattan support so far.
Both times I've questioned them I've received responses within 24 hours.
The first was regarding the mobile app which they confirm is coming later this year and it will allow scheduling & deleting programmes with immediate effect - no cloud involvement with a delay. Alternate recordings will not be offered in the first version but that will come.
Second question was about padding. Not in the current version but coming in a few months, probably the April update that's been mentioned.
They seem to be quite happy to tell you what's coming.

Humax also have 'HUMAX Live TV for Phone' and 'HUMAX Live TV for Tablet' apps for FVP-4000T and FVP-5000T in the UK.

The phone version only gets a score of 2.6 in Google Play, so it's probably rubbish.

Quite happy to tell you what’s coming. New features coming in months rather than years or not all, or worse yet taking features away. Maybe YouView could learn a thing or two?

I really like the Manhattan EPG as well. It’s looks very similar to the YouView EPG only better. The synopsis showing on the main screen and the mini picture in picture tv screen have long been features I’ve wanted to see on YouView.

If they make good on their promise of a mobile app I’ll definitely be purchasing a Manhattan. Padding would be the icing on the cake and would make it the perfect PVR for me.

Not in the least bit bothered about the lack of Netflix and Prime as I have 4K versions of those apps built into my LG TV and on my Apple TV.

Too many things missing for me to consider this an alternative at the moment.
The absence of any apps (Netflix Prime etc) is strange and a deal breaker for me, also not impressed that you can't tell visually on the machine if its actually recording.
Also  aesthetically not a patch on the T4000.

Is anybody at Youview awake? taking any notice?
Look here, more of the same disappointment at stopping the app.

Everyone knows that YouView has ran out of new ideas! Doubt in year or so, they will even be about! Since they have removed one of the best things about them!
  • kodikidkodikid Member Posts: 1,106 ✭✭
Think it's more to the point that youview is in a transitional stage. It's moving away from retail into the paid tv arena.

why update the mobile app with all the new nowtv channels if the app is closing ,to me that is a complete waste of time
  • Tim CTim C Member, Super User Posts: 622 ✭✭
Well both the YouView & Talktalk apps no longer send booking requests for me. They both pick up recordings and scheduled programmes but remote requests just sit there pending.
    Guess I’m now done.
I think it’s absolutely appalling that YouView have withdrawn one of the box’s’ most useful features.

Since the withdrawal of the remote App is a fait accompli, there is little point in whingeing about it.
...Just a thought, will the impending addition of Alexa voice control ultimately lead to remote access to the box as was possible using the above?

Researching the Current App has uncovered the fact that, for me as a TalkTalk customer, there is a version of this remote App specifically skinned for us TT Customers!
...I wasn't aware of it's existence, but since YouView have failed to set specific dates for the withdrawal of the various flavours of this App, I am unsure if the YouView App, or the TalkTalk skinned App will be the first to get the chop!
...likely simultaneous me thinks, since the difference is only the UI skin

I have the "YouView" App on my phone and paired with my box, all seem to be playing nicely, but as I will be more "Out than in" during March, would someone at YouView advise me:-
    1) Which of the two Apps will be withdrawn first?
    2) Can I download both Apps to "hedge my bets"?              edit... yes! just done it!
    3) Can I pair both Apps to my one box without confusing the poor mite?  ;)   edit...seems so!

I wasn’t happy at first but if this is what it took to get the full now tv deal with YouView and BT that’s fair enough........
  • kodikidkodikid Member Posts: 1,106 ✭✭
Sorry really don't see the logic in that statement, there was and still is a perfectly good way to get Now tv ....but there is no alternative to the app. Next time I'm out and realise there's a program I wish to record and can't  I will just remember how lucky we are to have full now tv on a youview box.

I like you all have been disappointed with the changes, I have however decided to use a NAS with a HDHomerun Network tuner and the TV Mosaic server app, it does remote recordings and you can even view/set up recording remotely, there is no sub charges after the initial purchase, I know its not ideal and not as simple or as friendly as Sky/Virgin/YouView but an alternative that can be used as well as a good way to store more than 500GB of TV recordings.

I’ve just discovered the Vbox Android TV Gateway. I cannot vouch for how good it is but it looks like a very capable bit of kit. It offers remote record capability and even remote viewing on the go. Also has quad tuners.

It needs to be remembered YouView is an off the shelf box and so is aimed at such a market.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.
  • The App has been failing to book recordings for me for a while now...  A shame it's already broken. I would have paid a sub for the continued support and use of the mobile App. Oh well...

Same here, with heavy heart have deleted my youview and talk talk apps and now resigned to the fact my remote recording days are but a fond memory

This app has been killed earlier than I thought. Tried it earlier and failed with a booking tonight, as it did last week but I thought it was a glitch.

Ridiculous, especially as the description on Argos website says it does remote recordings.

    Bad move.

    Hi all,

Starting today YouView will be phasing out support for the YouView mobile app with final support ending on the 31st March 2020. The YouView mobile app will then be removed from the App Store and Google Play.

The BT TV app is available to all BT TV subscribers. It can be used to connect to your set top box to set recordings remotely.

More information regarding this change can be found on our Support Site here: https://support.youview.com/mobile-app/

    Thanks,
    Sarah

This is dreadful. Many people on low incomes will be retail customers who use the YouView boxes without subscriptions. Also some of those with visual impairments can use phone accessibility features for the app but cannot read the TV screen menu.
You are forcing them into a subscription service, be it with BT or another provider.
Big business dumping on the least well off customers to cut costs.  Disgusting.

Can't wait for the day when Youview get rid of the dreaded darkened banner when using fast forward/rewind recordings.

Appalling decision. The app is brilliant. I run through my Radio Times setting up the week's programmes in the app. Now will have to sit with the telly on in bad light and no table doing it direct in the Humax box guide. Not to mention setting stuff remotely will now be impossible. I shan't be buying any more YouView boxes.

Hi Bruce, I couldn't agree more with you. Youview seem to forget many people who use the boxes in their homes each day. It's become a part of your daily routine. Very selfish and overlooked decision. John L

That's great if your a BT customer, but if you only use it for recording and dont pay for subscription TV, Not helpful at all! I didn't spend over £100 on a Freeview recording box that I could it to record through an app on my android phone and tablet, for that app to disappear only a couple of years later. One very unhappy customer, who will never buy anything that is remotely connected with BT ever again. Thanks a bunch for a piece of unless equipment!
