While we are talking about things I am unhappy with, I continue to be unhappy about the Disagree button.

Not only does this break the YouView Community Guidelines “don’t just say you disagree, say why you disagree”, but it remains anonymous, an open invitation to anyone to take a free shot, with impunity, at any well-thought out post they CBA to try to refute.

@Sarah, you indicated that this cloaking was a temporary glitch, but it has never been remedied, and this really ought to happen ASAP.

The other issue can be remedied by renaming this button Dislike; but we still need to be able to see whose slack-jawed inertia hasn’t been enough to impel them to a reasoned response to something they don’t like, instead of a brain-dead finger jab.

yes that would be good as I have 3 of the same on one of my posts.
Although I have to say I am fast moving away from using this forum at all. The BT forum has been much better for reasoned discussion (even when I am giving BT stick for what I see as poor decisions) and surprisingly decent responses from mods and tech people.

    I actually got a "disagree " for a emoji.
Thing is some people take a disagree as something personal...it isn't, it just reinforces the fact that yours is not the only view and that others have a different take on things.
I wouldn't read too much into it.
My fear is this community will close as part of the onslaught against retail and like Scott we'll all migrate to the BT forum.

@kodikid I have given you a like but don’t let it go to your head 🤣
my post above was a bit tongue in cheek as I actually couldn’t care a less who clicks what at the end of my posts and sometimes adding more comments is like going round in circles and just frustrates everyone and often sidetracks what the original post was about.
Sometimes I think it is better to just agree to disagree and move on ;)

Totally agree with you Scott. It's getting very silly & at times personal.

How about being able to tick as many as you want (as above) at the same time! It is silly, rather like Facebook with "like". Just glad Youview hasn't added "hate" as an tick. That really would cause trouble!

At the end of the end of the day its a Youview box! But it's something that is used in everyone's home each day, causing frustration with the problems, current & still awaiting to be resolved.

Can't wait for the day when Youview get rid of the dreaded darkened banner when using fast forward/rewind recordings.

No disrespect, but is it possible we can get back on topic please? I keep checking back on this thread in the hope of some news about a replacement app for retail boxes.

That's not going to happen,  it's gone, consigned to history.
You have a really simple choice
    A..
pay BT a subscription then you continue using the app to your hearts content.

    B
    ...go without

    Classic binary choice.

    @kodikid

I get what you're saying. I just don't understand how Youview can, legally, withdraw an advertised feature of their retail boxes with no regard for their customers.
  • redchizredchiz Member, Super User Posts: 5,471 ✭✭✭
@Berno I think they can do what they like, try taking it back to whoever you bought the box from and arguing the toss under the terms of the Consumer Rights Act.

@redchiz Thanks for the suggestion :-)

Presumably they have covered themselves for withdrawing the App whenever they wish, in the small print that none of us reads when we install the App.  ;)
  • BernoBerno Member Posts: 11 ✭✭
    @LastPintDave9,  I'm sure you're correct there.

That is excellent news @Sarah, it is a long time since I have found myself saying "well done BT." How embarrassing for TalkTalk though.   ;)
  • Excellent news! My faith is somewhat restored in YouView and BT. There is a God after all 🤪

Now all they need to do is allow for multiple devices within 1 app which , as a BT TV subscriber, I was using multiple apps to programme my 2 units.
Nevertheless for most users that is very good news.

This is great news for the wider YV community who mourn the loss of the native mobile app. I am a BT customer but as always used the native app rather than the BT one because it went straight to the guide and was easy to use. The BT app requires you to click through several screens to get to the listing grid view which is at best cumbersome.

Be in no doubt that BT will make this more awkward be using this to promote their own products and services. A good marketing move by BT

Kudos to BT. I do hope there won’t be a sting in the tail  >:)

I will now have to take two (hopefully waterproof) devices into the shower to set recordings on both my current YouView boxes, but two loaves is much better than no bread  :pensive:

On an unrelated note, our World Cruise has been cancelled halfway round due to COVID-19, so we are currently in Doha airport on route to LHR and home, where YouView will no doubt be a great comfort if we have to go into 4 months of self-isolation    :'(

We need to draw a close on this now, never has something been less required in a world of self isolation 🤭

    Hi all,

Following feedback from the withdrawal of the YouView mobile app, from the end of March, BT will be opening up the remote record functionality within the BT TV app for all* YouView users...
    I think this is incorrect.
The android app is already available.
    The app info says:

    WHAT’S NEW
Thanks for using the BT TV app. Here's another of our regular updates.
We're pleased to announce that we've opened up YouView recording to all users - even if you're not a BT customer you can now pair your box and set recordings, list them, and cancel/delete them too.
     :)

    I've just paired my T2000.
  • jimbjimb Member, Super User Posts: 1,425 ✭✭✭
You don't get the full functionality of the BT app, but the key function - setting recordings definitely works.

    Hi,
As some of you have noticed, BT have updated their app a little earlier than expected so some users will find that they are able to use the app from today.
    Thanks,
    Sarah

We know that the android app is available.
Is the iOS app also available right now @Sarah

    @jimb I've got it.

    Presumably iOS.
    That's good.
A bit of relatively trivial good news about this is a welcome distraction from the global nightmare.

Apologies, I thought it was obviously an answer to your question. I should perhaps have quoted rather than @ mentioned to be absolutely clear.
