The new Aura box is now on sale on Amazon (£249) but bizarrely missing Netflix and Now tv.
Anyone hoping to get this and abandon the streaming stick will be very disappointed.

It's Android and Humax say you can download all your favourite app etc from Google Play so unlikely to be an issue in the long term as those 2 and many more are there.

Edit: Seems to be some doubt about whether those 2 specific apps are ready to be downloaded/installed.

On the NowTV community, an early adopter has reported that attempting to load NowTV brings up ‘not supported on this device’.

The NowTV Android app phones home to Sky, and if it isn’t running on a Sony Android TV, it won’t run.

And this seems to have wrong-footed Humax.

    Can’t speak for Netflix, though.

Theres a new video review on Youtube. He tried to sideload Netflix onto the box but the box refused to play nice, so its a no-no. Which in this day and age, with Netflix being on every other device I own is very surprising.

I was seriously considering one to replace my bedroom T4000, one fell swoop to ditch the pla's and the roku.
Needless to say I'm no longer interested and never will be till they sort this.
Dont they do market research before launching a product?

I'm going to stick up for Roy here - no need for that. We're all human beings.

I've done some digging on this and been told it will be available eventually.

The interesting question then; is Netflix actively blocking downloads to the Humax Aura, or is there something that Netflix requires and which the Aura does not provide, such that the Aura is excluded from Netflix downloads by the automatic compatibility checking?

The press release from Humax said:
"...For even further entertainment options, users can top up their viewing with paid streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, BT Sport and Google Play Movies..."
Netflix is the number one streaming service, so isn't it obvious that the reason why it wasn't mentioned was because the box doesn't offer it.
That was the conclusion that I jumped to.
I don't wish to say "I told you so" but...

I can answer that. Netflix hasn't signed up to the platform, thats why it won't load.
The Aura doesn't have a licence to it. Nor do they have a licence for All4.

    Interesting @Visionman

So every single Android phone manufacturer in the world has to get a licence for Netflix? Maybe phone model by phone model? And indeed any other app that any given user might fancy downloading onto their shiny new phone?

I can’t see that working, somehow.....

It's intriguing that there's a "prime video" button on the remote control.
Maybe there was some deal struck, a little financial incentive?

    @Visionman
Regarding that, can I further invoke your invaluable assistance?
“Humax introduces AURA: First Android TV 4K Freeview Play Recorder”
Freeview Play comes installed with a great line-up of players with on-demand and catch-up services: BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, UKTV Play, STV and Horror Bites and CBS Catchup Channels UK.”
So can you please explain for me:-
How, without All4, the Aura could legitimately be called a Freeview Play device?
Why it might need a separate licence for All4 when the whole purpose of Freeview Play is to negate such piecemeal arrangements, and bring a whole package of players, including All4, under a single certification?

I am of course aware that the situation with Netflix is different.
But if the information you are providing about All4 is inaccurate, does this not perhaps cast doubt on the accuracy of the information you are providing about Netflix?

Never mind Humax; I’m just interested that postings on this YouView Community should be able to be substantiated.

I think we now have our answer on that.

@Roy Really? Did your YouView Android TV have ALL4? - The answer is no, as Sony also don't have a licence to it. And I know You know thats true.

EDIT - how do you also explain the absence of Netflix?

Yes, but a super user of YouView and Sony, not Humax. Although I do also own a Toshiba.  :D

On the first point, my YouView Android Sony TV wasn’t Freeview Play, but this Humax is. If you have a licence for Freeview Play, then that includes All 4.

As regards the absence of Netflix, I can only say that with respect, I am not here to answer questions on behalf of Humax, and so I suggest that you ask them.
