BT TV cancellation advice was correct

AndyAndy Member Posts: 19
Just finished a phone call with BT to cancel BT TV after a 12 month contract. They correctly identified it as a YouView box and specifically pointed out that although I will fail to recieve BT subscription items, I would carry on recieving all other non BT features such as on demand and recording. They went on to say I now own the box and was not required to return it, should I wish to carry on using the box with other providers.

All of this was already known to me, but I know of others instances (including myself in the past) where recent missinformation has been given by BT. Perhaps the correct advice is starting to filter down to where it is needed.

I was the same problem with my BT TV. But I have made a call to BT customer service for the help. They guided me very nicely and tell me each step very clearly. As per my personal experience call to BT customer service department

I have a BT you view box and have moved to another provider.  I plan to continue using the box as I mostly watch free-view.  Will I still receive upgrades/updates?

    Did you buy it yourself?
As of December last year all subscription BT boxes are on loan only.
To answer your question yes you will,
I left BT tv years ago and both my T4000's receive them.
    Ignore this if you disagree.

In short, yes. No worries there.

And if you have had a subscription on the box, and it has expired before now, then you are on the old arrangement where the box is yours to keep, and don’t let BT try to tell you otherwise.
Supporting YouView on Sony TVs is like nailing jelly to a herd of cats
