At a guess, it means there are no recordings going on, but I can’t recall ever noticing this.

Can you post a screenshot showing it happening?

    Hi Jonathan,
As per my reply on other section, have you tried doing the maintenance mode reset? If you haven't the box won't fix itself. Without being rude in any way, this would be my first route to trying to fix your box. Next option software reset and see if this does anything. Worth a try.

If this doesn't work, then it may be hard drive needs either totally reformating or at the worst replacing. My guess, I say a guess, is the hard drive may be corrupted. It also has a 2 hour buffer partition that runs continuously when machine is on. Hopefully, it is not going to be this, but the only way to find out is to do a reset. Fairly straightforward once you have followed the instructions carefully. John L

  • ill wait for confirmation from them to see what the answer is this is why its not online this type of problem because if it was you can sort it but its not  whatever type it is ill come back with confirmation with what they say many thanks its odd you got total amount of recordings like 17 then followed with 0 recordings you have recordings because it states it does but the memmory isnt reckonising the recordings via the box ive done soft reset nothing

@michellekeegan, if your ISP is TalkTalk, they will request you do the maintenance resets that @John L and I advised on your other thread, so you will lose nothing by doing them now and you can then tell them you have tried them and detail the outcome?

I had a quick look on the TalkTalk forum to see if you had posted but could not see it. Do you have a link please?

If it's not TalkTalk, who is it, as dont think they would be able to help as its a TalkTalk box.

@michellekeegan, just to add Jonathan, is the box your own? I.e. you purchased yourself or part of a subscription package with Talk Talk? If you have a subscription, then you have a contract directly with Talk Talk. They should provide customer support and be able to resolve your problem. That's what you pay for and if the box does turn out to be faulty they should replace free of charge. If, it's your own box not within a contract, then it's something you are going to have to fix yourself with advice given earlier. John L

Hi Jonathan. What have you done in the meantime to reset box? It only takes a few moments of your time to reset. A maintenance reset won't take very long to process. Well worth having an attempt.  John L

How long have you had the box? If it is a few years old then it probably is the hard drive, but if only recent, then something is very odd. If you have a contract with talk Talk, then this is appalling service that you are paying for each month. If it was your very own box, then if it is the hard drive issue, you have more options to fix problem. Hopefully you can get resolved, you might lose your recordings if faulty.

If it was me, I would purchase a replacement bt 2100 Youview pvr from cex online with 24 month warranty for £40+. You could then enjoy watching, recording again, having a spare box later on to use in another room, instead of waiting for talk talk to think about it. Good luck. John L

It may well be best to try the full factory reset from the settings menu now. You will lose all recordings, but you can't access these at the moment.

The reason I'm recommending this is that, as of last week, any replacement box TalkTalk will offer in exchange will be a non recording box, so trying to bring the recording function back to life will probably only occur with the full reset.

If it doesn't work or the box fails during this process, you can let TalkTalk know and hopefully they will then replace and you will not be any worse off than you are now.

Just to add Jonathan, have you tried doing a factory reset that erases hard drive? Last resort, but might fix your problem, unless hard drive is totally jammed. They can sometimes be repaired via pc but you can't remove, due to your contract with talk talk. Just a thought. John L

    @Stevef_fr8ys

That slid past without any comment!

Where was that announced, can they even do that under the T&Cs under which many TalkTalk customers took their boxes, what is the logic of it, and is it yet another nail in YouView’s coffin?

Also, I haven’t seen you making your usual suggestion that Michelle/Jonathan should get help from the Mods on the TalkTalk Community rather than the TalkTalk support phone lines, or is that what is happening anyway?

Its been kept quiet @Roy. I'm waiting for the proverbial to hit.

This follows the decision not to supply PVRs to new or upgrading customers.

I did make the suggestion or alluded to it on 11/2. Person has 2 threads and I mentioned on the other (https://community.youview.com/youview/discussion/7606436/talk-talk-box-dnt372t-freezing-an-sticking#latest ) but the OP seems to prefer to take advice from John so he has repeated my advice a couple of times and been thanked.

    Ah, so you did.

I know to bow to your superior knowledge of TalkTalk matters, but I guess newcomers find it hard to pick and choose among the plethora of SuperUsers on offer. Perhaps we should each list our specific areas of expertise 🤔

The OP just needs to contact Talk Talk. I'm no expert, I'm simply trying to help someone make sense of their box. I know, my own parent would be panicking if her box jammed, lost her recordings. That is her only source of watching tv. She would want the device fixed that same day & be able to enjoy tv, instead of waiting for Talk Talk to "think about it" & maybe replace box with a non Pvr if they find the problem "too complicated". The best support it seems is fixing it yourself? Does make you laugh. John L

@John L no criticism of you intended. I know you are being helpful.
If the OP had taken the advice to contact TalkTalk and post the link (I would have escalated it) on the 11th, they would by now be enjoying a new recordable box if it is faulty. As it is they will probably only get the non recordable version now in exchange if the box is faulty and the factory reset does not bring it back to life.

@Stevef_fr8ys, I totally agree. You would have thought this was the route to take, but some people like going the scenic route (!). Reminds me of my late father with buses! He never took the quick route. Am I just glad I can just get a screwdriver/tools out if needed. I think Talk Talk do a lot of "talking", but not as quick with action with their words.
Roll on the next user query . . . .
