  • Well... having read more of the suggestions above it they all re-appeared although the locked recording were unlocked.
I re-locked them and it all looked Ok so we watched live Tv for one programme for an hour. Then looked  again and the films and recorded programmes have disappeared again and there are only 11 recordings in my MyTv row..

Just before my one hour break I could go up and down through about 30 or 40 recordings/films...
    What is happening?
    please!!!

    @michaelshergold
Have you tried clicking on the MY TV Icon of LEFT side?  Then press the OK button on your Remote. IGNORE the Icons on My TV row - this is still "work in progress". It only shows a preview of some of the recordings. I think this maybe confusing users @sarah? John L

  • Think I have got it.. you need to press ok on the remote to see the complete library of recordings.. I guess that is what the + indicates.
you then get the old display of, in my case several full pages of recordings in the old format.

Very recently, my YouView blue button menu changed dramatically – and became much like that seen in Sarah’s original thread on the subject of “HUMAX Retail Software Update – New Home Screen”.  I was puzzled because I had lost the YouView branding (top left of the screen); in its place was BT TV.  I do not subscribe to any of the BT TV bundles, so why have I been selected for this unwanted advertising for BT TV?  I am wondering how many YouView boxes have been similarly rebranded to BT TV ?  My box, by the way, is a HUMAX Retail version.

In case I am unable to post a screenshot of my present arrangement, it seems to have partially reverted to the former layout but now reads across from left to right as:  Guide/Apps/MyTV/BT Player/TV Shows/Films/Sport/Kids.  I only ever use the first three.  Selecting BT Player (which also appears under ‘Apps’), gives an error message indicating that I am not registered with them; do I want to register ?  Well, er, no thanks.

As the present changes were imposed on me by YouView without consulting me, I am asking YouView for the rebranding to be removed and the situation reverted to what it was before.  I await the rebrand. . . . .in the hope that future ‘Updates’ can be opt-in or opt-out ?

@michaelshergold yes, the carousels on the Home screen are just summaries of their respective areas, just as the carousels below each tab were on the Main Menu. They show 10 items, without series stacking, as has always been the case (except Apps which shows all apps). The fullscreen versions show everything in more depth.

@Nyamandhlovu have you moved to use BT as your ISP recently? YouView boxes have always picked up if you were on BT or TalkTalk and applied branding there (regardless of who provided your box), and it's no different in Home vs. Main Menu or anything about recent updates.

Yes, simple! Problem solved. Hopefully other users will not be left in despair this evening. If only Youview had made the MY TV icon BIGGER & explained more to Users. Maybe next update feature? John L

I would politely suggest that if people are now struggling to find their recordings and otherwise operate their boxes after the update then the team at YouView Towers has failed in their UI design.

At the very least, when changes are imposed on users without their express agreement in advance then a page needs to be displayed on first turning on the box, and ideally every time the box is turned on until explicitly dismissed, summarising the changes.

    @Rob P,
I agree. The problem is it is so easy to assume every user is on the same learning level as the design team. Although Youview have provided notes to read, how many people have the time to spend studying this/ may still not fully understand? Most users will panic. I would, if I had been busy all day at work and then found I couldn't find my recordings. When you get familiar with revamped menu it is always easy to pick up things quickly, but a minefield for some users. John L

And it would greatly help if people looking for their recordings could press a button marked ‘Recordings’ instead of the rather opaque ‘My TV’.

My TV is that thing with the picture on it showing a button called ‘My TV’, and I am already looking at it.

If YouView designed cars, the steering wheel would probably be called ‘My Turn’ and you’d be sitting there thinking “Well, I’m already in the driving seat, who else’s turn could it be?”

I've got a couple of Panasonic PVRs as well as Youview and the Panasonics haven't changed in years the UI. The remote has specific buttons & press the Video one turns it on and goes direct to my recordings - in list format . That's ONE press to turn it & the TV on and get to where most users want to be atleast 50% of the time. The remaining % would typically be to the guide. Again a single button press and you're there and you get the option for the HD version when setting a recording and padding - remember what that is!
I also have the option not to have updates applied automatically , not that very many come along.
So as a user what I bought is what I have now , warts & all.

So as an elderly user , albeit with 30+ years as a systems designer, I don't suddenly need to learn something new. But just imagine if I were a typical 75+ user still struggling with mobile phones etc when presented with such dramatic changes that I didn't expect or want.

The Manhattan T3R has received good reviews so I was looking at that last year & signed up to the email service and guess what - they send out emails advising of upcoming updates and issues they might have so you actually know what's going on. That's how to do it.

When the Settings icon was moved - actually not a bad change - many users suddenly couldn't find it and posted here & over on the BT Community forum.

I really don't think that Youview have any idea of the confusion and frustration they cause by some of these changes and they never will. I doubt that many changes over it's life have been guided by user input and ultimately it's the user that's been paying for it one way or another, either retail or my monthly payments to BT/TalkTalk or Plusnet.

off on a tangent here,  i worked in a shop for years and thought that the company's right hand didn't know that the left hand was doing ,then i went to work for one of the company's listed on here and 2 thoughts sprang to mind the left hand didnt know that the left hand was doing and every monday the big bosses had a meeting and the open question was "how can we &^%$ it up this week "

I have predicted this design will cause as much uproar and loathing with customers as the change from old generation to new generation did.
I detest this new design. It's not at all intuitive to use in my opinion. It's also slow and I overshoot the MyTv icon and end up in the wrong area.
Many have said, even in the old design, that MyTv should be first as you have a dedicated guide button on the remote, but not, unless you have the latest TalkTalk remote, a dedicated MyTv button.

This new UI reminds me of the review play interface on the Humax Aura. If I can get some suitable pictures later post them so you can see what I mean.

In fact, one could say this new interface is a bit android TV like in many ways , however, android TV does have customisation options which I'm not sure would be present on you view hardware as the interface tends to be quite fixed if the past is anything to go by

Do you mean the Talk Talk remote with My view button? If so, this is again another oversight by Youview. John L

Echoing what's being said regarding the lack of direct access to MyTV/Recordings, is there a reason why you can't use the colour buttons as a shortcut?
i.e Home, then green to get to MyTV,

I don't like the new screen at all. Recordings are my main reason for using and this is definitely a retrograde step. It would be good to be able to revert to the old screen, if we wish,  which was far better in my opinion.

Trouble is, I guess they have UI designers who have to justify their existence, so change is good from their perspective. Unless the changes are genuine improvements in usability and discovery, there's a danger it's just moving deckchairs. I hope they take user feedback more seriously.

Just reprogrammed my Logitech remote to go direct to My TV, and I can confirm as Stephen says, same number of button presses, just 'Down' instead of across, but I did have to increase the delay between the remote sending each command sequence to 2 seconds from 1 second in order for it to work consistently.
I would prefer it if My TV was the first in the list though or for it to be configurable and truly personalized.

Hi @SomersetBob - note there is actually a specific remote code that the Harmony Remotes can use to go straight to MyTV without the need to setup a button to run a slower sequence of presses.
Before that existed I too used a sequence but switch to the quick/instant direct code in early 2013 when Youview sorted that. There is an old thread about it being developed and tested, although I believe these days one just selects it in the Harmony Remote setup (at least that is how I do it).
If I did not have a harmony remote that I could programme a sequence for back in 2012, and then switched to using the direct code for within the 1st year of YouView coming out, I think I would have likely left YouView early on due to the shear tedium of button pressing to do what for me is the most common task!

By elderly in-laws have used a Humax DTR-T1000 for the last 7 years to watch live and recorded TV. They are familiar with the basic recording and playback functions, but are too old to learn new tricks.
Without warning, their box has updated to the new Youview home screen. I didn't even know this was a thing and had to search the internet to find any information about it. Hence why I'm now here.
There seems to be no user guide for the new UI but I discovered that you need to use the remote to scroll down to hidden menus to find Myview and from this, the recorded programmes, but this isn't intuitive and is beyond the capabilities of my in-laws.
Can anyone provide instructions please so I can roll back the software on the DTR-T1000 to what my in-laws are familiar with?
From what I'm reading on this forum, Youview don't seem to have consulted much with their customers before making this major change to the home screen.  Or ex customers as they will soon be known as.

    welcome to the forum.
    I know what you mean.
Im all for improvements and anything new but any major change to the Youview box layout will take a while for an older person to get used to.
Don't think my dad who will be 88 later this year will like the new UI and it will take him a good few weeks to get used to it that's if he dose get used to it. As even now he gets me to set a recording for him if he remembers the programme is on. It's good that some of dads programmes can be set to series record . Were as a few years ago he used to set a programme to record himself.
It's good that the T1000 is still working and getting updates for some updates are no longer supported for the T1000.

Not really "customers " because unless they're subscribed to BT or talk talk they're enjoying a free service.....
As a matter of interest where will these soon to be ex customers migrate to?
Not being sarcastic but the reality is there isn't that much of an alternative.

Could you post a picture of the new Homescreen on a DTR-T1000 please?
According to this New Homescreen information page, and this Latest box versions page, the new Homescreen has so far only been rolled out to DTR-T2000 boxes.
I wasn't expecting DTR-T1000s to get the new Homescreen. Ours hasn't got it, but I would be interested to know if it is on its way.   :)

edit. It has always taken several button presses to get to Myview.
