Don't get me wrong I would be the first in the queue for a new box with all of today's features....just think it's only a matter of time before BT pull out of TV.

He remarkably thought the topic was about a new box not sport.

To which the answer has already been answered and is yes. Not that your interested.
Question actually was 'Can anyone update me on this, whether its true and when is it likely to happen?  Tks'. So I can not see the answer of when it is likely to happen. Has a post been deleted that answered that?

Then I defer to your superior knowledge. Or lack of it. Dunno.

    @westone

    The NDA mantra goes:-

    Those who know can’t say.
    Those who say can’t know.

(This does not apply to TalkTalk, which leaks like a sieve, but we are talking BT here).

Curious that it does not link to any official announcement that I can find on the web, though Pocket-Lint have it also:-

Took them long enough. That box has been in testing for over a year. Though Covid preventing.

    But no WiFi initially.
Only 5 years to wait for TalkTalk to catch up!

@Stephen - do you actually like the remote on your desk ;)
I do actually like it because I can use it anywhere and don't have to point it at the box! And two don't interfere! And I can also use it (after a reset) to control Humax devices if the TV Box Pro is off! Or I can use old Humax remotes to control the TV Box Pro! So many choices!

Indeed, as per @scott this is the new Home screen, but rendered at 1080p (previous boxes have rendered the UI at 720p)

So to get this nice new box I would have to leave TalkTalk and become a BT VIP.
That would mean my monthly payments would increase by 377%  :o

@stephen I like it but would be nice to see the buttons in the dark and the non delete and stop buttons (and combined play/pause) take some getting used to.

I have no interest in getting the VIP package as adding Sport would be a waste of money for me as would not watch the sport channels enough. I'm  happy with the Now Big Entertainment package and HD add on.
New box dose look good though and I like how it's a 1tb box.
Link don't say what the remote will look like.
Hopefully a full remove of the new BT box will be online soon.

A few of us have said for a while a new box was in development. Now its been released,

@Roy says 'Its still not really ready.' In whose opinion? Yours? The masses will be all over this.

They haven't actually worked out how to enable WiFi on it.
First users will be using wired connection.
I'm no tech expert but how hard can it be to enable WiFi on a box??.

"The masses?" With their £65 a month to spend and their compliant TVs? Are we living in the same world @Visionman?

There is a big difference between ‘enabling it’ and ‘making it work reliably for most people over multicast allowing 4k HDR streams’.

I would agree with Roy that there are still a couple of big parts to be enabled (Wi-fi and multiroom) but maybe they thought if they didn’t release something people might not believe there was a new box coming ;)
  • redchizredchiz Member, Super User Posts: 5,476 ✭✭✭
I didn't think multicast was a thing any more? Plus the complete absence of 4K/HDR content from anything other than third-party providers hardly makes it a sensation?
