I didn't think multicast was a thing any more? Plus the complete absence of 4K/HDR content from anything other than third-party providers hardly makes it a sensation?
Only the majority of Netflix content, masses of Amazon Prime content and lots of BT Sport content, not to mention some iPlayer content in HLG (which the new box delivers nicely). BT’s IP offerings (which includes its epg delivery of all the now channels) have and always will all be in multicast. Everyone complaining about BT not releasing the new box and now they have people will start saying it’s not really needed, same old same old from people…
In all fairness the £65 is not for the box it's for the vip pack. This includes all the sports, movies and entertainment and is exactly the same price as before with no increase for the new box. Actually cheaper then the comparable Sky and Virgin packages. Re the remote, was it designed by Fisher price😀
Um, so we agree then? Apart from multicast? Netflix, Prime etc. assuredly do not need a £65 a month box. .
Like all things the box will be available on its highest package to start and then on other lower packages when the highest tiers have had their chance to get one first.
I can't believe this new box has caused so much controversy. Most of it from people who will never use or want one. Aw well.
Not necessarily true. In the fullness of time these boxes always end up on e bay or Amazon. So when the time comes to replace your current box this could be the ideal replacement. Who knows could even end up selling them retail.
Four tuners? Gigabyte memory? Don't care. It is all online, streamed, etc. And for the old school who prefer recording, well, if that is the long-term market they are looking at, good luck with that. Now, where is that box full of videotapes I never got around to watching ...
Hmm. No Sub? No Del? No Skip? Or are there alternative ways to get these?
Subs, AD and Zoom are in the accessibility menu dropdown (top-right button). Deleting recordings/watchlist items can be achieved through using the Rec button. Skips back/forward rather than ffwd/rew is a matter of long vs. short presses.
So thats a no then. Or perhaps a yes? Perhaps perhaps perhaps. You like using that word as some kind of justification of and to whatever you say. Stick to actual facts, man.
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.
I found on the T4000 that it was visibly inferior to what our 2015 Samsung TV could do, such that I would rather run the T4000 in HD and let the TV upscale to 4K, than run the T4000 in 4K, except on those rare occasions when there was some actual 4K to watch that the TV could not get directly, such as His Dark Materials on the BBC iPlayer.
Though with our new (to us) LG GX, there is about nothing we can’t get better on the TV - HDR on Netflix, subtitles on Now, so the T4000 is mostly used as a PVR.
This of course is a playing field the new box wants to level, with HDR on Netflix, and - ah, but wait - can it/will it manage subtitles on Now?

I've always been a BTTV sceptic and last year switched to Sky after many years with BTTV. My Sky TV contract ends soon and I must admit that this new BT box has got me scratching my head as to what to do next. If I ditch Sky I'd most likely be diving straight into BTTV VIP so therefore this new BT 4K/HDR box would be replacing Sky Q for me. I'm heavily tempted to come back to BTTV on reading the many reports re this new box. One thing I must ask though, and it's not really a biggie for me as I have an Apple TV 4K device for my streaming players, BUT does this box offer HDR10+/Dolby Vision for Netflix etc?

The answer is no. You have to pay to license DV so I can’t see it ever doing that (even the PS5 doesn’t do it yet) but HDR10+ could be a possibility if it ever becomes more prominent but I would guess probably not. It does do HLG though.
Some thoughts from reading the manual for the new box:-
Still no My TV button. For goodness’ sake…..
YouView gets a mention under licensing. Nowhere else.
YouTube also gets mentioned under licensing, and nowhere else. That would only make sense if BT were thinking of bringing YouTube to this device. Wouldn’t it?

@Roy Sorry if your uncomfortable with that word but whilst your reply was interesting you didn't answer the question. So have you decided to get one or not?
I'm now happy with the disagree icon, because its gone.
Personally I see this as cautiously encouraging news that this box has finally been released. Will I be signing up to BTTV to get one - absolutely not!
If one becomes available though through other more suitable routes for me (be that retail, ebay etc, or perhaps one to trial in due course ) then I would be interested for several reasons:
my T2000 has looked like it might fail terminally for several years now (it regularly boots into maintenance mode at the start of a day and then needs an option 1 recovery after which nothing is lost except any recordings it was unable to do whilst stuck in maintenance mode); surely that will become a reality in the near future and with the current options I would strongly consider something other than youview
the new box performance would give a more snappy feel
although we record significantly less than we used to, and watch significantly more from streaming services (not via the youview box though), rather unexpected we are getting significantly more triple clashes than we used to and hence the additional tuners would clear that issue rather than having to remember to go back for some content from players
support for future proofing features is welcome - 4k hdr, dolby atmos, more capacity to accommodate those larger recordings in 4k
the box is presumably much smaller, and thus generally neater - not a big issue but a nice to have
a bluetooth remote might be nice, although I expect I would prefer to stick with my harmony universal remote (so I can start everything with one button, as well as access MyTV with one button)
There are though a number of disappointments that remain at this point:
wifi is in the pipeline but not yet delivered - not a major issue when swapping in for a current wired box but it would have been nice to finally have this rather than hear it is still to come at some unspecified future point
still no MyTV button on the remote (as per @Roy 's remark and clearly evident from pictures of the remote) - unbelievable given the feedback over many years and that a physical button is baked into the hardware and hence easily done at the design stage and now an unfathomable missed opportunity; is this a mistake/missed opportunity by sagemcom or youview I wonder
whilst I'm not overly offended by the latest iteration of the youview UI, i.e. it is largely rotated through 90 degrees and no worse than what we had, sadly I fear it may be another missed opportunity. When next gen came out it was supposed to allow for easier and quicker development, supporting faster delivery of both big and crucially potentially smaller but useful polishing features; sadly it seemed to deliver next to nothing of major note. Will next-next-gen be any different - I hope not but fear that may be the case. We lost some features with next gen, will we get any back or other useful polishing touches; I will continue to observe (quietly) and be pleasantly surprised if we do
no indication that the apps already included will catchup and have (nearer) feature parity with versions on other devices, nor any firm indication of more apps for everyone - without this the box will become ever more insignificant in my viewing experiences, even though I expect it would be missed if it were gone as I would still want something to cover the remaining PVR aspect duties
still no option for the user to disable the menu screen coming up each time one first turns on the box (I never want it and just have to wait for it to disappear or I hit exit to try to close it quickly) - surely trivial to implement and observe use stats; while they are at it they could even provide an option for those who want to turn off the new thumbnail rows, and for bonus points when that is enabled it could rotate the remaining icons back through 90 degrees to give a compact menu experience that would be less confusing for some and welcome for some others

“But you’ll need a wait for the wireless networking to be ready.”
So in their opinion, it seems, and as confirmed by BT.
So not an opinion, perhaps, but a fact.
So perhaps thats a fact? Really? Do you want the new box?
Well, I wouldn't kick one out of bed.
But what has that got to do with anything?
Whats the upscaling like?

I asked you what difference it would make whether I wanted one or not.
I don’t seem to have got an answer to that from you.

And ‘slag’ is a curious description of the objective teasing out of the strengths and limitations of the new box.
Are you perhaps (that word again) too emotionally invested in it, in a way that makes your mind want to skip away from uncomfortable truths?
