    I haven’t tried recently but I believe the four tuners is slightly misleading as you can still only record two IP channels (even with my 300mbps connection :(), you can record four broadcast channels or two broadcast channels and two IP channels. I can quite happily record the 4k channel, a HD ip channel, two broadcast channels and watch Netflix while the lad plays a game on the ps5 and the missus watches YouTube :)

    I do find it amusing that everyone screams for a new box and when it is released complain that there is no point in it. Can smart TVs search all the content? Catch up still leaves a lot to be desired with some still not playing in HD and still not allowing you to skip adverts. Also it is not easy to record the F1 and start watching it half an hour after it’s original start time on a smart tv ;)
    I think the best points of the new box over the standard 4k box will come later.
    You have a 300Mbps connection, great for you but most of the country doesn’t which was my point. The mix of what you can and can’t record will just confuse customers.

    Sure some people will want to record live sport and watch it later, but I reiterate BT’s own data they shared, they are in a minority.

    Some smart TVs have a global search, especially those using Android/Google TV. Personally I use the Apple TV app to track my viewing and its search covers everything (including NOW), apart from Netflix.

    You've got to admit that's a hell of a niche market [which still exists].

    The VIP option isn’t actually that bad a price if you add up the three now passes (sorry membership) and boost plus the BT Sports and Eurosport’s channels in HD (you can get offers on it also) but appreciate that isn’t for everyone.
    Is it?

    I think that depends on how you negotiate. I currently get everything on SkyQ (excluding BT Sport), in up to UHD (including Eurosport) for £49.

    That price also includes Netflix and multiroom and if I really want BT Sport I can buy a monthly pass and also watch in 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos.

    My neighbour uses NOW memberships to top up his Freeview viewing and has never paid more than £20 for sport or £10.99 for Entertainment and Cinema together. He watches sport live and everything else on demand.

    It’s all horses for courses, I get that, but the direction of travel for viewing habits (which will impact Sky as well), is non contract on demand streaming, regardless of whether people like you or me prefer a PVR.

    I've just cancelled all my streaming services as I didn't watch them enough.

    So you have just proved my point as you are saying with negotiation you can get it for £50 without BT Sport (£25) and your friend pays £30 without BT Sport or boost or Eurosport but you compare that to BT’s price without any discount which you can get with negotiation. Also getting sport for £20 constant and entertainment and movies for £10 a month constant is quite hard to believe (I get them prices now and again but not constant).
    Anyway like I say it is horses for courses you pay your money and take your choice. No one is forcing anyone to take any of this and you can find fault with every streamer, pvr, tv service if you want to none of them are perfect (including sky q).

    Personally I have an LG tv (with lots of apps), Chromecast, NowTV streamer and AppleTV 4K. I never use the first three and swap between this pvr and AppleTV probably 50/50, I use AppleTV to get things like Dolby Vision but also the pvr still to record to watch later without adverts (and help me remember what I want to watch) a lot also, this weekend for example I wanted to watch the WRC, MotoGP and F1 all overlapping and the pvr allowed me to do this and not miss anything. Like I said horses for courses.

    You've got to admit that's a hell of a niche market.
    You also have to admit that it’s a hell of a USP, if a USP is being sought, for a box that seems to have all the bases covered, or will do, pretty much, once it has WiFi, YouTube and Disney+

    Perhaps the question we should be asking ourselves is not ‘can we already do everything this box can do?’, but rather ‘if I got a new box, would I rather it was a T2xxx, a T4000, or one of these?

    So Frame rate matching but no Dynamic range matching. Not good!

    Frame rate matching? If that’s so that’s a really good move if all the apps can make use of it.

    Works great on a firetv stick it, only problem is apps that aren’t updated to use the feature, as is the case with Netflix on the firetv stick.

    Hopefully all apps with variable frame rates will be updated quickly to use the feature on Youview.

    Oh wait a minute I’m a retail* user, and this is exclusively BT. Oh well.

    *Still no Amazon prime app for retail Youview.

    Sadly my BT youview retail box has just died. (Both my boxes so far have developed a faulty HD after about 2 years, coincidence?). I'm not seeing any new boxes of the same model for sale from the retailers page on the YouView website, other than a few from third party retailers on Amazon. Would it be fair to assume a new model is imminent? I really like the YouView UI and don't really want to switch to a Freeview box. My LG smart TV sadly doesn't have twin tuners s just adding a HDD isn't doing it for me. I could look to replace the hdd in the box I suppose.

    @Lexxie,
    I think you have just answered your own question on last point made. It could be a faulty drive or simply just a corrupted drive that needs reformating. Why not explore the maintenance options first before spending money out? If you are good with a screwdriver, you can hopefully solve your problem. There is a search bar under help/support that will provide full instructions. Please let forum know how you get on, if you need more help. John L

    Thanks John. I've tried the various Maintenance Mode options, I just get a loops of the BT logo then the YouView logo, then the box restarts. I have noticed a quiet beeping from the box which is what made me think it was the HDD. I guess I could just replace the drive, they are about £20 on ebay. I was mainly interested in whether the new box was imminent as I can't see this model on sale anywhere.

    @Lexxie.

    I have no idea why hard drives fail every two years In your boxes, though if you are going to replace them from eBay, then make sure the drive you get is rated for video use. Else they really will not show consistent performance and longevity in PVR usage.

    You can’t buy retail YouView boxes any more; YouView have discontinued the T2000, and BT no longer have their retail variants, so anything you see on Amazon or eBay is pre-owned, grey, or a bit moody.

    There is a new box that BT have just started supplying, but only to premium BT TV subscribers, and likely on the basis that the box isn't yours and must be returned if/when you stop subscribing, so you are unlikely to see many, if indeed any, for retail sale, white or gray, in the near future.

    Thanks for the information. What a shame! Having seen / used other freeview recorders at friends and families homes I think the usability and appearance of YouView is much clearer. I'll replace the HDD in mine and start doing some research for an eventual replacement.

    While it is true that any posting on here can be read by anyone following the Community, you do need to take notice of the context.

    In this particular case, I was replying to specifically to Lexxie, who I thought did not possess this information in context, might not have read the whole thread from beginning to end, and indeed thanked me for providing it.

    As for the information being known a year ago, that might have been true for a select few, but for the rest of us it was just unsubstantiated rumours; and the only rumours I listen to, without substantiation, is my CD by Fleetwood Mac 😛

    @Visionman

    Thing is, not everything we see evidence of comes to fruition, and even if it does, timescales can vary wildly.

    Do I believe that TalkTalk are, or were, working on a new YouView box? Yes, because I have seen evidence of this.

    Do I believe that TalkTalk may still launch a new YouView box? Yes.

    Do I believe that TalkTalk will launch a new YouView box? Ah - this is where we hit the semantic problems with ‘believe’. I can’t answer No, which I would only be able to do if I had definite information that TalkTalk had abandoned the project. And I can’t answer Yes, because that would require definite information that it was imminent.

    ’Believe’ is a slippery, non-binary word; it does not compute, it is not zero or one, and it is not even, like a probability, between zero and one. It’s more like a quantum superposition, like Schrödinger’s cat, dead and alive at the same time until opening the box (or, in BT’s case launching the box 😛) causes the collapse of the wave function.

    So yes, I didn’t believe you (so not 1) but I didn’t disbelieve you either (so not 0).
