Hi all,

Today BT have launched their new YouView box, the BT TV Box Pro with the software 0.4.52 / 4.0.116. Feel free to discuss this update and the new device here.

Viewing Quality
The sleek new box is designed to support the next generation of TV viewing, with 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos, offering a complete immersive experience.
1TB of storage
Double the capacity of the previous BT TV box, with up to 600 hours of recordings.
Watch and record
Record up to 3 shows and watch a fourth simultaneously.
New remote
A new Bluetooth remote offers a quicker, smoother experience and allows the box to be stored out of sight, if needed.
Pause and rewind
Interruptions don’t mean missing out thanks to the ability to pause and rewind live TV.

Thanks,
Sarah

Interesting. I wonder about the WiFi though, it must have proved problematic during trials?

    From the link:

    New remote

A new Bluetooth remote offers a quicker, smoother experience [...]

Is it actually any smoother and quicker, or is it just quick relative to the speed the current boxes have been reduced to with the latest update?

It means that you don't have to point it straight at the sweet spot on the box and the battery will run out much quicker.

Reading the userguide on the BT site it states
"Recording four programmes      -  You can record up to 4 programmes at the same time. If you record a fourth programme, you can’t then watch a fifth on live TV. You can still watch something in an app or a programme you’ve already recorded"

Is this (userguide)  correct or is there a maximum of 3 recordings as implied in the Youview and BT news releases.

    @Ken Hill1

YouView don’t actually make boxes, so the question needs rephrasing.

This new box is made by Sagemcom, while all earlier BT boxes have been made by Humax.

As to whether it uses YouView software, or different software altogether, this is hard to discern from BT’s announcement, but there are hints that the software is an evolution rather than a revolution, though the Y-word itself is nowhere to be seen…. 😢

A contractual obligation that BT would no doubt like to have given even less prominence.

Sorry, not been on here for a while and I could've sworn I checked the recent threads beforehand. Dunno how I missed that massive one! Blind as a bat me, sometimes...

But yeah, the mention of YouView and YouTube in the small print is of interest - both in different ways.

Seriously dissapointed, this software update is yet another  backwards. When will the software designers realise user functionality is far more important than flashy graphics & cpu  sapping systems. My T2100 is many years ild now, the  last major update was worse than the original softwarem this is worse again. The box is now so slow, more often than not by the time the box has caught up with my button pressing, I am 2 or three steps beyond where I want to be.    I do not need graphics to pop up to let me know I have changed channels (often will after the change) I pressed the button so I know I change channels. If I want  to see what is on I can press info. These functions should be optional not default.   What is relally annoying, is that I had no control over the update I only found out after it happened because the menu structure had completely changed, and not in a good way.

Has anybody received one of these boxes other than a trial box yet or is it just an announcement for a new box down the line?
