Remote control (HUMAX) record button doesn't work.

Only a recent problem, it's been working for almost 6 years before this arose. The record button no longer works. Sometimes, if you press the record and the 'i' button at the same time, it works. But that is hit and miss and very frustrating. We've tried a reset of the whole box, of the remote, and new batteries. Any suggestions or do we need a new control?

    @cbird

    A can of air duster, as here:-

    https://www.wilko.com/fellowes-hfc-free-air-duster-200ml/p/0485493?gclid=Cj0KCQiA_c-OBhDFARIsAIFg3ezDKU9AE9f-k9xU2MauxuNmYzaGCk76mJ8qqsoGtVSQY6cCDl6xRtgaAqWKEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

    squirted round the offending button, would blow out any dust or other particles that might be affecting the connection.

    Do not use anything wet or oily; WD40 might be tempting, but is electrically conductive, so not good to spray into the remote’s crevices.

    But if it’s a switch failure, then a new remote will be needed.

    I had the Forward Skip on my curvy Humax remote go; air dusting didn’t fix it, so I prised the remote apart and had a look, but the underlying switch had gone. And even if I had found something to fix, the remote wouldn’t go back together properly, even though I’d been careful with it.

    I bought a cheap Chinese clone of the remote off Amazon; it did work, but it wasn’t a pleasure to use, so if you do replace the remote, make sure you get a genuine Humax one.

    Doesn’t have to be the original curvy one though, some of the BT and PlusNet ones are better in some respects, albeit worse in others.

    Thanks so much that's really helpful. Will try that.

    I suspect that the BT remote on the far right will not work at all as it is made by a different manufacturer, but even if it operates some of the functions, it lacks some of the buttons of the others.

    I have used (and own) 4 out of the 5 others.

    The slimline BT remote, (2nd from the right,) with the black and white 'button' next to "BT" is the worst of them.  It may look similar to the slimline remote with the silver OK/navigation buttons but it lacks the topological design, and as a result it is very easy to press the wrong button.

    The chunky remote is a bit too chunky for me as I prefer the ease of using the slimline remote with the silver navigation buttons, but some may prefer it.
    The chunky remote has a very similar relation, and care needs to be taken if attempting to buy it second hand. There is a very similar looking chunky remote that does not have a blue button labelled "youview" but instead as a second purple button (labelled "On Demand"). A chunky remote with two purple buttons wont work at all.

    @Luke

    If the one you haven’t got is the one second from the left in the BT/Plusnet lineup, then I have one of those, and agree with you about the ‘puddle’ of buttons in the middle.

    Still the second worst though, as at least it isn’t attempting to deny its YouView heritage.
