From January 2022, ITV will be updating their content protection technology which means new shows will no longer be available to watch on first generation YouView devices (T1000, T1010 & DN370T devices).
For more information, see our article here.

What is the user experience going to be when attempting to watch a recent programme on one of the affected devices?
Will users be able to tell which programmes will play, and which won’t, without actually trying them?
Will later devices need an update so they can play the new programmes, or are they already capable, perhaps from an earlier maintenance release?
I've alerted them and content manager now on the case.
It's not a standalone article dedicated to the ITV Hub changes but the article from TalkTalk with this info in is here. It's the first result when you search for ITV on the TalkTalk help page.
Hi Roy,
From January, new content will not be available to watch on-demand through the ITV Hub app. However due to the metadata, it will still appear in the UI that it can be watched on-demand but when the app gets opened, the user will see the message saying that it's not available to watch on their device. Content which is available on the app before these changes begin will still be available on ITV Hub until it expires and gets removed.
Any non-first gen devices will be able to play content without any issues and do not need to do anything, this is only affecting first gen devices.
Thanks,
Sarah
It’s just the ITV Hub, which is the internet catchup service from ITV, that will no longer be available on the old black YouView box, the T1000, and its near contemporaries, the T1010, and DN370T.
Accordingly, as she hasn’t got the internet anyway, she won’t be affected at all!
The T1000 YouView box, like my membership of this Community, has just passed its ninth birthday. State of the art at the time, it has now been left behind by the greater power of subsequent boxes, and there are already many apps and features it can’t support.
Most TVs from 2014 and earlier have lost their smart apps to the march of progress, even the BBC iPlayer; that this is the very first app the Day 1 YouView boxes will be losing is quite a feat.
For the app developers, keeping the old devices covered adds to the complexity of each release, especially allowing for their lack of speed, and sometimes retaining support for old devices means that you just can’t add the latest features. So there comes a time when the developers decide not to support the very old devices.
So, you might ask, why not just keep the original app on the YouView box? The answer is that what the developers have to produce is not just new apps for us to download, but a backend system that supports every user device out there, no matter what version of the app it is running.
Which is what ITV have decided to do, by providing a new app no longer held back in any way by the limitations of the old device.
But these days, nobody has to replace a £1000+ TV, or even a £250 YouView box, because apps on it go obsolete. A £30 stick, from Roku or Amazon, will keep it up to date with all the very latest versions of the catchup apps (for those who have the internet).
The 2012 Samsung TV in our back bedroom, still running perfectly as a TV, but largely devoid of its original smart apps, is now smarter than it ever was thanks to the Amazon Firestick we have added, plugged in to HDMI 1.
We convinced the mother in law to switch and we kept an eye on the expiry date so that we could renegotiate the contract when due.
Whilst she didn't use a computer or tablet we introduced her to the catch up facilities via a Firestick, as @Roy has said, and there is the added benefit, you too will be connected when visiting.
Thank you all for putting my mind at rest.
I may have misread sorry.
I thought it meant that the the ITV hub was going in January, and no new programs, then slowly loosing all the other overtime?
My mistake then sorry.
No she doesn't even have a landline, so no go there lol.
I didn't even know this group existed until the message about ITV hub came up on my tv. Then I did a search for answers and found the group.
I've checked my box and can play OK, but others can't.
We raised an issue with ITV last week about content in the guide not showing as being available on demand in ITV Hub despite it being available to watch there. We're currently testing a separate issue where some content gets stuck on loading when launched within the app but it's not affecting all content, it does seem to be only on TalkTalk devices so far. Do these sound like the issues mentioned?
Thanks,
Sarah
