Sweden-based Viaplay have bought the rights to men's football broadcasting for the Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland National teams.

If you don't care, are not interested, or only bear naysaying thoughts then please don't bother posting and dragging this thread down the usual path.

    Further fragmentation of streaming services then; Viaplay are taking these services from Sky Sports, which is unlikely to become cheaper because of this, to add to a new platform which will no doubt come with hefty subscription prices of its own.

    I wonder what platforms Viaplay will become available on?

    Another nibble at Sky, as you say.

    On the latter point I guess that will become clear as they gear up to actual launch, which is flagged for "the second half of 2022." 

    The usual suspects I imagine, in their current markets they cite:
    "Viaplay is available through its own website, connected TVs, smartphone and tablet apps (Android or iOS), games consoles and devices like Apple TV and Google Chromecast."

    Hmmm 
    I'm of the opinion that watching national sports teams should be free to all and part of the sporting " crown jewels"
    Last summers Olympics was greatly curtailed on the BBC as Euro sport had bought the main tv rights. 
    Actions like these just force people into pirate streaming. 
    At the moment to watch your prem team and national side you have to subscribe to 3 different services costing nearly a grand .
    Not good.

    I think only international Finals stages (e.g. World Cups, Euros) are officially regarded as "crown jewels" for broadcasting purposes @kodikid, alongside things like the FA Cup Final and Wimbledon, but otherwise I tend to agree.

    ITV currently have the rights to England home matches, although I have no idea how long that runs for. The reference in various quarters to an "UEFA centralisation deal" has a slightly ominous ring to it.

    Will mean yet another service to subscribe to if you want to watch the likes of Scotland play.
    Just when some people are looking at trying to make savings on their bills with the coast of living crises.
    I would think the service would be on Sky and maybe Virgin and maybe the Amazon Firestick and Roku at a guess.
    Dont know if many pups will take the service.
    One pubs in town that I sometimes go to still dont have Premier Sports. Just Sky Sports, BT Sport and Eurosport.
    Also the Pub/B&B near me also just has Sky Sports, BT Sport and Eurosport.

    Although no longer a pup I'm pretty sure my mutt wouldn't be interested in watching Scotland play.

    And I am sure it will be seen as a decent proposition for pubs/clubs in the nations concerned.

    Imagine going on a city break to Edinburgh and popping into a bar to watch England play Scotland...complete with your red and white St George shirt.
    That 32" back at the travelodge doesn't seem so bad now.

    Tricky one to explain but here goes..
    England, Scotland are national football teams which don't play Premier league football...
    Liverpool and Ever..Burnley are premier league team's who do play Premier football. 

    Amazingly the alleged " joke" doesn't make sense in relation to the post.

    I don't follow English football as much as I used to but I still sort of like Liverpool and Manchester United.
    Up here in Scotland I sort of liked Rangers but mostly support Dunfermline as I stay in the area and used to be a season ticket holder back in the 90s and early 2000s.
    Anyway back on topic its not good news that you will have to pay to get another streaming service to watch Scotland and the likes of Wales.
    Wonder if the service will offer other sports as well.
    Unless you manage to get a deal/ discount. TV and streaming services are starting to become dear and with the cost of living not going to get any better overt the next 6 months.

    Judging by what has been announced so far then yes, along with other content, to what extent and how that will be bundled is yet to be known. This ain't no Setanta Sport.

    Apparently this deal was negotiated by UEFA can't help feeling Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish fans have been short changed. Another streaming service to sign up to if you want to watch your national team play. England, however have signed a deal with Channel 4 and all their matches are free to air. Personally I think all the national teams games should be free to watch and maybe included with the UK government list of events that must be free. Can't be right that England's games are free to watch in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland but you have to pay to watch your own nation play.
