So, having first switched the remote from TV to AV, so it goes back to controlling the YouView box not the TV, just try it.

Or as alluded to above your replacement remote mustn't be compatible with your original box.
If you own a Humax youview box a Huawei youview remote is useless and vice versa.
Corrected accordingly. Hopefully ‘replacement’ here means ‘same model remote as the one that got broken/lost, etc.’
