The Play.Works app is now available on YouView (excluding first generation devices), accessible via the Apps page.

The app contains a number of games for viewers to play

  • The service is free, and contains adverts.
  • No account is needed.
  • Games are single player, against the ‘computer’ or local multiplayer.
  • Games are played using your remote.

    Well  first experience wasn't great . Selected Quiz Tv as the game and all i get is a blank screen with no apparent way to exit and return other than by the Home screen..
    Tried again choosing Hearts and that appears to load OK.
    Retried Quiz Tv twice more same error.

    Then I tried the Backgammon - not bad, until the end, when it was pointlessly moving its counters onto 1 and 2 in its home board, instead of getting its last counter, on 6 in my home board, out (all my counters were home, so it was unopposed) and it nearly backgammoned itself.

    As it was, I gammoned it, whereupon the OK button went to Info Please Wait… and I am still waiting as I write this, as it has hung.

    Should we rename this app Play.Doesn’t Work?

    Tried the chess game. It works but is a little slow compared to the chess app I have on my iPhone and iPad.

    It's not bad - it is painfully very bad.
    In additional to what you reported:
    - it hits almost regardless of the risk to itself and putting itself in a worse position and you in a better position;
    - if you give it a dose of its own medicine by hitting it regardless, then it will kindly get out of the way in your home quarter and destroy any chance it has of winning via a back game;
    - if it can't hit you then it will be overcautious in its placement and heavily reduce its chances of the next throw being a lucky one for it.  I suspect that unless it can hit you, or you are blocking it, that it takes zero attention to your position.

    well i did try Quiz Tv again this evening and it loaded. Navigation tedious.

    Just noticed this earlier, played a few rounds of Tetris and SuperMaze, a very nice addition. 
    When can we expect Beehive Bedlam?   :D
    Also it would be cool to have a cloud gaming app on Youview, I've noticed BT offer Xbox Gamepass via their packages which could be streamed through Youview, with controller support. Kinda like Playstation Now or Google Stadia.

    Also, slight issue with the music on Tetris not looping, just goes silent after a minute.

    There could have been better apps added on Youview than this. 
    Some of the games seem ok but overall the app needs improvement. As some games are slow. Not tried all the games but have tried a few.
    Overall I'm not to impressed with this app.
    Also a cloud gaming app is the last thing Youview needs the now.
