BT Software Update - Visual Guide

Louise MurdochLouise Murdoch Administrator Posts: 146 admin
Please use this thread to discuss the software update for BT TV Box Pro devices which adds the Visual Guide replacement for the Mini Guide

What’s On Now

When watching Live TV, the Visual Guide will open when you press up, down, left, right on your remote.

What’s On Next

If you press the right button > on your remote you will be able to see what’s on next.

Personally I find the original mini guide with its unobtrusive positioning at the bottom of screen to be very useful and one of the best features. if I understand correctly this replacement seems to restrict you to now and next listings . Is this correct as the ability to look forward  for programming  in the next 12 hours is one of its best features and will be sorely missed.

A question .will this new visual guide list understand hidden channels you have opted to hide or will they still be listed ?

Just glad I haven't got a Pro box.
How many users will go "WTF is this now?" I wonder.

@zulu17 yes it's just now and next.
But it does ignore hidden channels.

There is an incorrect link to the discussion thread in the Youview announcement. Instead of linking to this thread it goes to the discussion thread for the Find my Remote update.

Is the software versions in the Youview announcement for the removal of the mini guide and its replacement also incorrect?
    The announcement states:
         Manufacturer software: 0.5.252
         Component software: 4.0.220
but they were the versions for the Find my Remote update.

The "Latest Box Versions" page also still lists the versions of the Find my Remote update although the status description has been changed to "Visual Guide currently rolling out".

    Hi @Lukе

The software versions have remained the same for this rollout so these are correct:

         Manufacturer software: 0.5.252
         Component software: 4.0.220

    Thanks,
    Louise.

Looks awful. At least they should have been an option in settings to change the view.

    According to this:

The update is still rolling out (I haven't had it as yet either).

BT's own community forum has just had a query on this 'update' answered by a BT TV developer who states the visual guide is still in trial mode only.

Just tried it on the BT TV Box Pro that I use and can see it.   I'm not a trialist.

@LukеI have had it for a while now. I think BT are confused as to where they are at with this particular feature.

The feature was not completely rolled out on the software builds  in this announcements  so for example I only received it in the past couple of days but that was on the later software build.

Observation it doesn't always give the Next program , You first have to press remote to het On Now and On Next but then there is not always a On Next programme.  So if the on Now programme doesn't end for several hours no  On Next programme appears to be listed.

Also I notice that Info I button gives  on occasion has  different program   info to the On Now programme.

Just to expand I am seeing differences between the  current on now Home Page Sport Featured channels and the visual guide,

    @Schart

If you gave somebody unfamiliar with YouView all the UIs it has ever had, and asked them to arrange those UIs in what they think is chronological order, you can be pretty sure they would get the sequence exactly backwards 😛

Using that rationale if you placed them vertically would it end in tiers?

    Ouch, that’s a rank suggestion 😛

Navigation is also a bit strange .
First when initially launched it is effectively a ON Now , the move right gives the ON Now and ON Next with the on next programme highlighted
Navigating down or up  it remains on the On Next programming for the channels EXCEPT when there is no ON NEXT programme listed only the ON NOW  where the ON Now programme is highlighted. When you continue moving down  from that On Now programme it  goes back to the On Next .

a further issue with the visual guide  raised on the Bt community is that the channel logos  used .for the Now channels are not very clear. Even if the customer uses zoom the logos are not clear.

If the customer opts to switch channel logos off the results for the Now Sky Sports channels are displayed like this

So the channel names are significantly truncated.

so can higher quality logo images be used and for those opting for no logos can the channel names be more distinctively displayed.
