Need advice about youview
in Support
Hi I am currently a SKY+HD Customer with the Entertainment Package my contract ends shortly.I am thinking of replacing my satellite box with a Used BTYouview PVR, with 1Terrabit HD but have concerns about Connectivity..ie am using an AEI digisender[sends audio and video signal to Bedroom TV]but connectivity is by SCART Cable.I would like to get the NowTV entertainment package at £9.99 ,which is much cheaper than I pay to sky at the moment.
My current ISP is PLUSNET until contract ends January 2023 When I may consider moving to BT..Can someone advise me whether its worthwile making the move away from sky now,or wait until January when my Plusnet Contract ends, and presumably I would receive a free BTHumax box?Any help advice would be appreciate as I am concerned about whether a SCART/HDMI converter would work in both instances. Thanks for reading this Michael

These devices will have all the apps your used to on your Sky box.
Keep up at the back there!
Thus you have complete remote control of the Sky Box while watching anything you choose, which is relayed to the bedroom TV.
We had this in Spain, worked great in both bedrooms (though only one programme at a time!)
Will work with YouView boxes too, though only DTR-T2xxx ones, as even Humax DTR-T4000s don’t have SCART, only HDMI Out.
Later, HDMI-only, kit puts the kybosh on the original Digisender, but AEI do now have HDMI senders. Or you can split the HDMI Out from a later YouView box, bust one side down to SCART with a £30 Chinese gizmo off Amazon, and carry on as before, at least with your existing TV.
What you can’t do, though, is record from Now on the Now App, though mostly this doesn’t matter as you can use catchup.
If you want to drop Sky and still keep recording it, then if you get BT broadband and subscribe to BT TV, where you can record the Now channels on the PVR that BT will loan you, you can use the ‘£30 Chinese gizmo’ approach to keep using your AEI Digisender setup. Though their HDMI one will be better, and only needs the splitter, so you can route the HDMI out from the BT YouView box to the downstairs TV and the HDMI Digisender at the same time.
Though if anyone at your end is a bit Mutt & Jeff, note that you don’t get subtitles on the Now app on the YouView box, which would be a job stopper for us.
But my previous misinformed advice still stands...the only way to truly replicate the app laden Sky box is a youview firestick combo.
Even the likes of Amazon and CEX are starting to get low in stock of the Youview boxes.
Its been about 7 months since I cancelled BT TV and went with Now direct.
My BT FTTC is up for renewal in the next few months. So will look at my options then. As FTTP is coming to my area in the first half of next year.
Love the Youview box but only use it now to record and watch live TV on Freeview.
In the last 18 months have been using the Amazon Firestick for all my apps and some streaming channels from Pluto TV and Plex.
Love the Amazon Firestick and its the best think I ever got. I got my sister the Amazon Firestick for her Christmas last year and she uses it 90% of the time.
@Michael Hrons You could keep your dish and use it for Freesat if you wanted and by an Amazon Firestick.
I probably had an advantage in that I have used a Digisender in the past, so I knew where @Michael Hrons was coming from.
The main problem with two YouView boxes is that what you have recorded, and want to watch, is likely to be on the box in the other room. The only way round this is to record everything on both; and if you want to do remote recording, you need two devices with the BT App on, one paired to each.
Not as simple as YouView could have made it, perhaps 😢
