The issue BH is describing has nothing to do with a BT contract. I have two YouView boxes (DTR1000 & DTR2100) and they both work perfectly fine on VM. The YMV error happens on both boxes and on both my BT & VM connection. It's flakey software.
-
I have the DTR1000 & DTR2100 using a Draytek 2920 load balance router with dual WAN - VM & BT. Both boxes exhibit the same issue regardless of whether I use BT or VM. The DTR1000 is far worse though.

The BBC are incorrect. I have the raw TS streams from satellite and the AC3 is lower volume than the PCM. AC3 has a higher dynamic range and is less compressed than the PCM equivalent. It's up to the manufacturer to decide how they decode and amplify the stream. Amplifying a stream means you will effectively compress it…

It's not a fault of the YV box. I have a Samung Panasonic Sony TVs that all allow me to change the Aspect Ratio using HDMI input. Though I personally hate distorting pictures so everyone is fat and wheels are egg shaped.

Same here - cancelled by BT sub last week and they stated it would definitely stop working and didn't understand why I would want a box that didn't work. I didn't argue as I knew he was completely wrong - I just had to persist through the selling until they cancelled it.
-
Problem still exists. It's the nature of people to give up and find an alternative ie use the same function on their smartTV. I gave up until last week and thought I would give it a go. Latest SW version. Started stuttering from the start so thought give it a few seconds but no. Unwatchable. Rebooted the YV box and it was…

Guys - lets kill the PowerLine adapter line right here. This thread has identified a problem with the iPlayer backendapp. It needs resolving. Once it has been resolved then look at individual cases as they come up - whether they be PowerLine adapter issues or other. Sorry - but that is just basic common sense.
-
The issue has nothing to do with powerline adapters. The stream is barely 5mbps. Even the worst performing powerline adapters can achieve this with ease. Also - if other on demand players are working fine on the same box then why ask about Powerline adapters? We know the issue is elsewhere so lets get that resolved first…

No - my testing using VMs Superhub (both in router and modem only mode) and BTs VDSL modem and Draytek router elimated this. You have a whole range of ISPs and eqmt here all suffering with the same problem and only with this one app. Logic dictates therefore that it is the app at fault.
-
Try the Superblub in modem only mode.
-
@Chris - so how do you explain the fact that iPlayer using YV is fine on my Sony & Pana TVs? It is identical to the iplayer app on the TVs themselves and my PC. No overscan or cropping. So both my YV boxes are fine. So something in your setup is definitely wrongdifferent. Maybe if you tell us what TV you have and what…
-
@Peter Wells. It's not notorious at all. Whilst I hate the Superhub (and I have one but run it in modem only mode), this is not the problem. I have tried it in modem only and router and it makes no difference. It maybe that your router had it's own particular issue. But the same buffering issue exists using VM Superblub…

Virgin Media 60Mb & BT Infinity 40Mb. Draytek 2920 - dual WAN so I can switch ISP at a click of button. Box is a retail Humax. Rebooting YV box helped. Memory leak or poorly written code.
-
Ability to test a using a different ISP? Does it work on a PClaptop?
-
You need to be a bit more analytical than that.
-
It's a problem with the YV box and it's implementation of the iPlayer. See this ever growing and ignored thread... http://community.youview.com/youview/...
-
Phil, you need to read through my posts. The YouView boxes implementation of the iPlayer does not work and it's been proven by myself in this thread and by others.
-
Robert - no, the built in tuner can carry aspect ratio changing to the TV. 1080p has only one Aspect Ratio and therefore NEVER changes - 16:9.
-
720p or 1080ip cannot be anything other than 16:9. If you choose AUTO or SMART you are asking your TV not to determine whether the output is 16:9 or 4:3 but to make the best of out of what Aspect it think's it is being fed. So... if the TV sees black lines at the top or bottom it will stretchzoom the image. Same if the…

Blackadder 2 on BBC Two HD - what a waste. Sorry - I can see more of these topics coming up.
-
The YouView implementation of iPlayer doesn't work very well. Check out the other long threads.
-
Why would you - Youview changes it for you within the 1080p output. Your TV was misdiagnosing the TV picture using it's "smart" or "auto" mode. Leave it on 16:9 forever. This assumes you are using HDMI and not SCART.
-
Only if you have overscan turned on on your TV. But that won't help what I am seeing in the OPs image - that is bad.
-
Yes - grey bars are the TV. Sounds like the TV is defaulting to 4:3 on that input. HDMI or Scart? In either case TV Aspect Mode should be set to 16:9 not Auto or anything else.
-
There is no problem - it's peoples TVs that are overscanning. The TVs that don't have overscan enabled don't have the issue. You only notice with iPlayer because the logo is so close to the edge. The other players logos are much further in.
-
gwatpaulandy all have an early model of TV that were 720p. The assumption made by the manufacturers then was that overscan was compulsory. They have wised up since and later models allowed for overscan to be disabled.
-
How would you know it's iPlayer that's the problem if the other logos on the other players are not so close to the edge? You model doesn't have the ability to turn off overscan either... but... try page 25 of the manual where you can adjust the height and width of the picture under the Zoom setting.
