I'm afraid I have to agree - the Now TV app on Youview has too many issues. Now have it on my Sony TV natively without any problems at all. I no longer have any rising stress issues from all the sound glitches which never got fixed. Plus I think the Sky Sports refresh rate on Boost is still stuck at 25Hz on Youview.

As I understand the BBC blog article the news and sport will be available via the MHEG text service only - it is only the video that is transferring to iPlayer. The blog talks about the reduced MHEG text being available by pressing the Text button on TVs rather than by pressing the red button, so you would hope…

Well i'm sorry Youview - I have given up on you fixing this. The Now TV app has just become available natively on my Sony Android TV and I will be watching via that from now on. No sound issues, no initial fuzzy vision as the stream speeds up, and much snappier response than my BT Box. Oh and as it's native the app is pin…

Interesting... 1) Set App setting in Boost menu to 5.1 Surround. 2) Started stream. Dropouts occurring. 3) Go into Youview sound menu. 4) Change HDMI output to Stereo. Sound gets louder. 5) Change HDMI output to Surround. TV reports surround but sound volume stays loud and Stereo only. Seems to be an interface issue…

The problem here does not seem to be to do with the connection as the video continues without any disruption or artefacts. Also it seems to occur more often at times of heavy loading - e.g. during critical parts of F1 qualifying or at the start of the race. The sound dropouts are really frequent during today’s qualifying.
-
Still getting drop outs on Sky Sports F1 today. I may be imagining it but the drop outs seem more frequent soon after a stream is started, and less frequent after an hour or so. But they do keep coming 😖
-
Sound glitches back today - so my fear that it is to do with the load seems likely 😡
-
Watching various Sky Sports channels yesterday and today the sound problem seems to have disappeared even on 5.1 sound. Not sure if the app has updated but fingers crossed this is fixed. I guess we’ll see when the stream gets heavily loaded during the actual F1 race tomorrow 🤞

Thanks for the update @Sarah. Hope some progress is made soon as it is severely impacting the usefulness of the Now TV app on Youview. Should have said I do not have such sound problems using any other function or app on the box. Just Now TV.
-
As Roy and Sarah have confirmed, it is not.
-
Well I can still access the All4 and ITV Hub apps from the Android App home screen - the only difference is that catch-up programmes cannot be accessed via the EPG. Still have a BT TV box with full-fat Youview, just that the implementation on Sony Android TVs seems to have been abandoned and no longer supported.
-
I got excited for a second thinking that this was an update for the Android TV app. But it's not. Still stuck on the old interface for my brand new Sony, so have disabled it in favour of the Freeview EPG...
-
Well I already have the Chromecast so not much point in buying another box now even if it is cheap. Plus I use it for a range of other useful apps other than catch-up including Netflix, Youtube, TuneIn, VLC Player (for DLNA) and BT Sport (which gives me second screen access upstairs without having to buy a multiroom…

Well my DTR-T1000 has finally bitten the dust this week after 3 1/2 years. Bought it as a retail box from Comet (just before they went under) just after Youview launched. It had been relegated to our bedroom after we got a DTR-T2100 through BT TV but was still operational until recently. Not sure if it was the latest…

In those circumstances I normally just switch to the TV tuner instead of the Youview box! As you say Instant Restart is the obvious selling point, but that's not available on these streams yet, only on Desktop iPlayer.
-
These are the same live streams that have been available for TV large screen via Chromecast iPlayer for some time. The quality via Youview and Chromecast is exactly the same. The only advantage of watching these channels via iPlayer is if you can't get a DTT signal (e.g. living in a flat without aerial), as a backup (e.g.…
-
Bizarrely they have obtained channel logos when Youview users cannot even access them. IMHO Youview should not show channels on the guide that are not compatible with the Youview box!
-
I would think that it wouldn't be an exclusivity contract, but rather one that said 'this channel shall not be made available free to view whilst we are paying for it'. Hence both Sky and Virgin can carry it as they are both Pay TV, but their investment is not undercut by the channel provider also broadcasting it free on…

Powerline adaptors need to be directly into the wall to work properly. Yours may have just worked on the extension cable for a bit, but the interference level on your mains may have increased for some reason. Moving the adaptor to the wall will give it a much better signal.
-
Yes - maybe your aerial has been damaged in the high wind at present? That is a pretty low signal.
-
Not totally true - I have an All-in-one PC that has a large (greater resolution than HD) screen. It has two HDMI ports - One is an output as per a laptop for attaching a second screen. The second however is an input for displaying images from another device. There is a control on the screen to switch between inputs. I can…

Probably because they knew they were going to have to wholesale SS1 & 2 and by not offering SS5 it still makes Youview seem to be an inferior service. Sky are masters at this game and BT fell for it. Not that it matters next year with Champions League going to BT Sport, but enough to stymie the launch on Youview.
-
Indeed - and if BT & Talk Talk sweetened the deal to pay Sky more for the wholesale service in return for removing NowTV.... You can see why it may advantage Sky to make a fuss at the moment to make that a bit sweeter for them...
-
The fact that BT are, indeed, about to launch Sky Sports on Youview puts a different slant on this situation though doesn't it. It doesn't suit BT, Talk Talk or Sky to have a single platform on which they have to compete for custom, as there would be too much pressure on them to drop prices.
-
Looking at a more recent Daily Mail article there may be more to this than Sky throwing their toys. It read as if Talk Talk and BT are actively wanting Now TV to withdraw from Youview, and are doing a deal with Sky to make that happen. And you can see why - they want their customers to buy Sky Sports via them, and not have…
-
Spin and bluster - journalists nowadays seem all too ready to be used by being fed morsels of 'inside information' without digging as to why. We know that the core technology to enable NowTV (unicast) is now there. This just stinks of Sky getting frustrated about a platform where they don't call the shots and actually have…
-
If it is a series you can of course use Series Link to record episodes more than 7 days in the future. For programmes that are first shown more than 7 days in the future you may be able to use catch-up players to watch them online when you get back. Otherwise as you say you need a mobile app, or else get someone in to set…
-
I was about to say this - any extra charge for multiroom may just be the cost for the second box. BT may not be restricting the service to one box as such.
-
The trouble is that most TVs store different picture settings for JPEG files (either from USB or a network source) than for HDMI inputs. So you could adjust the TV for a perfect picture off a JPEG of a testcard, but it wouldn't have any effect on the settings used for the HDMI input. Which is why a Youview box generated…

I have the misfortune of buying my Humax from Comet at the end of July 2012. Fortunately I registered with Humax for the second years free warranty, but if it fails after July this year the above course of action wouldn't be available to me as the company was liquidated in October 2013.
