I have a Panasonic DMR-BWT720 and it's a fantastic machine. But with Panasonic the only drawback is that you cannot use Netflix, iPlayer etc while it's recording.

Nice attempt at peacemaking but we all know that that person being objected to doesn't:- 'reply to a comment with a seemingly amusing response which appears to come across as sarcastic..' but is just plain nasty.

'ovine programming' Very good, I thought your spellchecker had corrected 'online' for a moment.
-
'As for Aisha, I'm not really comfortable discussing someone who is now not participating in the thread.' So you maintain you do have some limits.
-
Martin quotes the Oxford Dictionaries site to justify his use of 'retail'. But then says : - "We'll have to disagree, I don't believe Aisha has been 'monstered'." Oxford Dictionaries defines this as 'criticize or reprimand severely' If Martin's treatment of Aisha doesn't meet this criterion then I don't know what he thinks…

"i too tried initially explaining that 4:3 with black bars was to be preferred over having bits of pictures cropped off" condescending or what!

I have an aerial connected to the TV because it gives me the opportunity to watch another channel on another mux when I'm recording two channels on Youview. Other than that I do like to record everything I want to watch and replay when it suits me, especially for skipping ads on commercial channels.
-
The only thing to add to everyone's comments is that when you:- "Pressed the large power button on the front of the Humax. The machine powered down OK, pressed the button again and the machine fired up but it had continued to play the recorded film!! It was like nothing had happened and the film was playing even though the…

Panasonic PVRs allow you to copy High Definition to DVD once and the DVD is playable on any machine.

The Panasonic DMR-BWT720 is a lovely piece of kit and down to £360 on EBay, although Amazon only seem to be selling through a reseller at the moment so their price has gone up. Edit: Not sure that the ebay one is brand new, best price seems to be £400 at PC World and Currys.

Samuel, that was funny, and you can google to see who Steve Ballmer is. Also you can set up your profile so that you don't receive emails for each post. That must be better than unsubscribing as you do get useful information here as well as "silliness".
-
AndyT, iPlayer works fine on mine, so I can't see that yours not working is the BBC's responsibility, especially when it works on your laptop. I agree with your first thought, it's YouView's responsibility (or Humax's).
-
I get the choice on BBC1 and 2 but not ITV or Channel 4.
-
Agree, it would be better, but if you use OK instead of up-arrow from the recordings option the highlight will go to the top of the list.
-
Very good Roy, it's taken me 5 minutes to get that one.
-
The Panasonic DMR-BWT720 will copy from its hard disc to bluray, some programmes have a 'counter' incorporated and only one copy can be made.
-
I entirely agree bbstrikesagain.

It might be best to get the ethernet connection to work first with a soft reset before trying the powerline adaptors. These adaptors have their own problems but have no chance at all of working if an ethernet direct wired link won't.
-
You can only set a recording from the EPG and you can't edit a recording. It's a feature of the YouView box.
-
Martin, for once, I thought your comment about Roy mimicking another poster's style was quite neat, and also at that time you weren't actually decrying his "little sly dig". And I thought his response where he mentioned having thought you were HFA was not meant to be offensive as he raised it specifically in the sense of…

Actually News at 10 does offer a series record, and if the programme you want at the same time on Mon Wed Fri doesn't by some chance offer series record if you set the first occurrence to record it's only a couple of key presses (>> button) to hit the next one.
-
Martin, I didn't detect any sarcasm in BeatleUK's comment about your continued references to the legality of keeping recordings, nor did he in his initial comment refer to a point of view "which I don't actually hold". It does seem on a casual read that you have made a lot of references to the legality of recordings and…
-
Hi BeatleUK, regular users of this forum know that a reply like that from Martin doesn't mean he's in a bad mood at all, it's standard.

Mine is the DMR-BWT720 so it must be using this feature. Thanks, never realised this was how it was doing it, nor, thank you, did I think of using it while actually watching. Just checked it out and it really does accurately skip the ads.
-
As regards a continuous feed of data I notice that when I record from a commercial channel on my Panasonic PVR and then edit the recording to cut out the ads chapter-skip will find the beginning and end of the ad break so I assume a signal is sent then.
-
Hi Simon, This is normal when you first set up a series record.
-
Seems really strange, in view of Simon's experience, but my recordings of this afternoon's and this evening's Shaun the Sheep programmes (19 March) are spot-on. Just a second or two spare at the beginning and the end. It's a Humax box, Oxford transmitter.

Depending on which order you switch them both on it may be that the TV is not picking up the correct HDMI input to display the YouView signal and rebooting the box forces the switch. Have you tried the AV switch on the TV remote to cycle through the HDMI inputs to see whether that is the problem?
-
Very good Chris__M.

That's fine of course Visionman, thanks for the reply, and I did sort of get it, although I am guilty of not having watched the film. But I was intrigued by Martin saying it seemed pretty obvious.
