In a purely selfish manner I’d prefer if Vodafone would buy TalkTalk. They would then be quad play (Landline, Internet, Mobile & TV) in the same way as Sky & BT. I am a Vodafone mobile customer with Sky Q and a Sony YouView TV.
-
YouView needs to open itself up to getting every, top, app possible on its box. Make its UI a lot better with tv in corner more channels in view a full HD interface use the screen and have profiles and mini boxes and a slave HDD. basically be the best bits of BT, Virgin & Sky and do dual FreeSat and FreeView boxes. Corner…

There is a bucketload of deficiencies with this device which should have been foreseen!!!!
-
Be nice if it’s satellite counterpart, Sky, did a “No ads” option.
-
Is there an advert free UKTV+?
-
Are there any videos of this box in action? The epg and menus etc.
-
Does it or will it or could it have, the ability to do more than 4 tuners? (Sky Q has 12) will it have multi room? Or an, App (like Sky Go) could do UHD/4K HDR via app cloud recording? it needs to appeal to the Sky Q market and those who like Sky Q and do the things Sky can’t or won’t do.
-
Maybe I'm looking for too much from a 1 device super solution. I apologise if I’ve frustrated anyone. internet Apps FreeView & FreeSat with a harmonised EPG and delivery system. Maybe someone will do it but it seems it won’t be YouView. Be it a box or built into the TV I still believe there is a market for it. All the…

They are on most TV’s & any new PVR could easily have both sets of inputs.
-
So would you be able to put software together that blends FreeSat & FreeView into a decent interface? Yes or No if the kit is already there as in dual tuners of both the aerial & satellite what is the limitations orb the difficulties you may come up against. There is FreeView & FreeSat & Internet & Apps
-
Many TV’s have dual tuner aerial and 2 satellite inputs. FreeView & FreeSat are just essentially software hacks / Apps.
-
Forgive me but does the poster mean to say BT Sport Ultimate, as in 4K/UHD. this thread is giving me a headache.... lol. is there any way to change all the references of Unlimited to Ultimate
-
Short answer is NO. on the Sony TV’s you can only record from Freeview not YouView. I know this is disappointing and disgusting and disgraceful, but that’s the way it is. for fairness I’m not sure who is to blame, Sony or YouView (Owned by all of BT Group TalkTalk Group Arqiva BBC ITV Channel 4 & Channel 5 ) maybe it would…
-
As a Vodafone customer I’d consider the switch if they had quad play and could deliver a decent box to rival Sky Q. basically aerial + satellite + internet with all apps and 4K HDR with enough tuners and multiscreen options be it a YouView or better option. A Q like box with a mix of YouView & Sky HD features, an…

Seems like Visionman can only see to the end of his own street if he thinks “ the UK is now fibred up to the eyeballs”. I'm not sure whether a laugh or a grimace is the correct way to interpret that comment but it’s just totally incorrect!!!!
-
There has been rumours in the past that Vodafone were going to try and buy it. They would then become a quad play telecom supplier, phoneline, Broadband, mobile and TV.
-
This is exactly what I have been calling for for years. The FREE TV solution for all in 1 box with linear and on demand with inputs for Aerial & Satellite & Internet harmonised. If YouView wanted to lead this it could have been brilliant. A YouView owned jointly by BBC, ITV, Ch4 & Ch5 licensed to BT & TalkTalk. I doubt it…

I have a Sony Bravia Android UHD HDR TV Model No XG9005. I see this as a massive 2 fingers up from Sony. My model in particular i feel is given total distain, they don’t seem to care about pre 2020 and next year the 2020 range will maybe the ugly ducklings??? Beware on buying Sony. My 25yrs of buying exclusively Sony is…
-
I can’t get the “Live TV & Catch Up” App on my Sony Bravia Android TV. maybe it’s because I have YouView running. But the only thing that says it’s YouView is on the Sony Select featured Apps, coincidentally that is the only way I can get to the BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 & My5 apps too.
-
My tv has 2 satellite inputs and a dual tuner FreeView for watching 1 channel & recording another. if YouView controlled the satellite via their app (instead of FreeSat) as well as the “FreeView” they could harness the content.
-
YouView & FreeSat are essentially just Apps piggybacking on the system to turn all the frequencies and multiplexes and LCN’s etc to a useable interface for the consumer. The “data” comes OTA over the air via an aerial then cabled to the TV or via a satellite then cabled to the TV. It isn’t easy but for those that do it it…
-
I don’t know why YouView & FreeSat don’t merge in some way to corner the free market. Any FreeSat box could easily have an aerial or FreeView box have satellite capability. If a way to homogenise the EPG’s recordings etc and offer the apps too it could be a killer partnership. Lots of people have dishes up but no longer…

There has been constant rumours of Vodafone talking over/Merging with TalkTalk, to bolster their Landline numbers and get into TV to rival the BT & Sky quad play offering. Abroad they have Vodafone TV, maybe they think YouView is better or worryingly if they think it’s worse and they do acquire TalkTalk YouView could…
-
I believe it is contractual not technical. To suggest that you can’t have YouView and record or not and use satellite and record or not is preposterous. It would be technically VERY easy to have both Recordable YouView & Recordable Satellite or in fact FreeSat on the Sony Bravia Android TV. From whom the limitations come…
-
Roku is king atm. Sky Q coming close though
-
If Sky get BritBox UK & Apple TV they will undoubtedly be the “one box” solution. YouView can compete if they do the same. Free TV, Pay TV (Now TV/BT Sport) & SVOD services (Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Apple TV+ BritBox UK..etc.)
-
Just for clarification, from 17 Sep 20. LCN 11 - Sky Arts LCN 34 - Pick Personally I think Sky Arts is a great channel and I think it will be a brilliant addition to FreeView which is generally poor, outside the PSB’s, in comparison to Pay TV, obviously there are many exceptions to this.
-
This is precisely why YouView via Satellite should be a thing. Essentially it’s all software as the over the air signals are their for FreeView & the satellite signals are there for Satellite/FreeSat. youview software could easily be adapted to take in the satellite information and they could have a clever interface to…
-
Are the Now TV channels available in Full HD & recordable via the EPG. if so, does this mean that it’s only Virgin that doesn’t have Sky Atlantic?
-
Because FreeSat & YouView are both free options in the market which is separated by aerial & satellite and to corner both markets with 1 interface would be fantastic a box that could give you the best of both. Hardware lets in the info, Software does the work and the consumer gets a product that joins them together…
