Hi all, I haven't been on here for a dog's age. I was outraged at the NextGen update in 2016 and made my opinion known on here for many weeks. I made several suggestions during that time and it seems pretty much none of them were ever addressed. I wasn't alone in most of these suggestions. In the end I gave up and got on…

Well I've just spotted that the horrendous 8 sec banner timeout has been reduced to 4 secs at last whilst watching a recording. Yaaay I thought, there must've been an update, finally something's been done about it. Someone has obv taken 5 mins out of their very busy day to alter the timeout length, thank you. My question…

Christ on a bike.

1. The fog that affects 40% of the screen every single time you press any button during playback or live viewing, which stays there for 8 seconds. 8 seconds?!?!?! 2. See 1. 3. Software updates that destroy functionality of my box, NextGen being the obvious example but the last one being the live pause functionality…
-
20% of the screen is a bit understating it Peanut. Top and bottom banners take up about 40% of the screen overall. I agree that it's one of the very worst things about Nextgen, and it's a huge list. As you say, even just an adjustable timeout would make a massive difference.
-
Sod anything new, what about fixing the stuff they removed/screwed up?
-
My box has always been slower since Nextgen screwed it up. As you say, generally the slight delay isn't quite annoying but sometimes it does take two or three seconds instead of one, meaning you end up pressing a button again and landing in the wrong place, which IS annoying.
-
I can totally see why you might want different timeouts for different situations. It does seem weird that this particular thing is the one to have a reduced timeout. But then there's a lot weird about Nextgen to start with.
-
I got all excited this morning when I realised my box had updated to 29.27 and I could look forward to the timeout bar being reduced. I'm sad to report Jimb that it only applies to changing channels as you say. Normal pause etc is still a mindboggling 7.5 seconds.
-
Playback bar timeout is quicker? Really? NOW I'm interested!! So it's been reduced from a truly horrific 8 seconds down to what? Nothing else interests me in this update. I'm still not over the fact that the previous update broke my box's pause function.
-
You and I (and others obv) use our boxes in different ways. I admire your shoulder shrug attitude to this particular problem. It is however doing my head in, I obv have less patience than you, this is a major problem for me. I take it that your current box doesn't exhibit this behaviour? Or do you mean your current…
-
Do you mean the fault has been "triggered" by the update rather than "introduced" by the update then?
-
This is the first time I've encoutered this specific issue on any pvr I've owned (and I've owned a few).
-
Indeed, however the exact same HDD has coped no problem from new and has only just started this behaviour since 28.26.
-
Soz, I know you don't want to post further on this thread but I'm curious about your choosing tp run with the buffer full comment. Surely that's what most boxes do by default if not switched off. What should we be doing? Changing channel every hour? Or did you mean something else?
-
Well that's fair enough VM. It's the first time I've heard you say that. At least we know a bit more now thanks and that it has actually been looked at. Were you asked by Youview themselves? But basically we've got to lump it.
-
I conjectured it was a bug, but was told I didn't understand what I was talking about by a couple of contributors on here. It does however seem simple enough to my tiny mind: box working fine, overnight software update, result; box doesn't work properly any more. It is a huge issue for me that the live pause function…
-
Except it isn't an individual problem though is it VM? I started a thread about this after I received the 28.26 update on my BT box, which you responded to. Forgotten? I'd never had the problem before.
-
Er yes it would. I don't think anyone's bought one yet have they? To be released in Oct? Nowt on Youtube yet to see what the interface looks like.
-
Nice.
-
It'd be interesting to see how quick the box is, my youview box is painfully slow since Nextgen arrived along with all the other issues I have. This Humax box only has to do a couple of things well and I'm outta here.
-
Ok cheers. Sounds like a hell of a faff.
-
VM, how does a punter get info then on this box if there's no info button? You obv have the answer even if it's not possible. Please forgive my lack of knowledge on this new product and Humax branded boxes in general (also I can't be bothered to do research when you clearly have the "info" anyway). My loathing of NextGen…
-
I don't know if Youview monitor every thread but you've asked for problems to be included in this thread Sarah. My box's live buffer has gone whacko since the 28.26 update. It no longer functions correctly if the box has been on a channel for more than two hours. It was neverba problem before. I've already started a thread…
-
I too find those two things to be the worst aspects of next gen. The OSD should be user controllable in terms of how long it remains on screen (like it used to be a while ago). My OSD lasts for eight seconds now, up from the already ridiculous five secs before the 28.26 update. Also downsizing it would be a step forward,…
-
Well you say that Roy and normally I'd take your word as gospel, but I'm sure I've seen another post saying that if another programme has started then a new programme buffer starts. The box was on all night btw as always. I posted above about how (the box having been on for over 24 hours already) the BBC News channel went…
-
Intermittent could be the key word (see post below!).
-
I thought I'd come to an understanding earlier today that is was behaving like this when a channel had been on for more than two hours. I'd decided that when a programme was short and hadn't been on long then it behaved fine, but that a prog over two hours caused the gremlins. BBC News channel prog started at 11am today…
-
No probs, easy done. You stumped then? : )
-
OR are you saying that ALL boxes like mine are exhibiting this behaviour now but very few people use the box like this so haven't noticed?
