  • As the originator or this thread, yes I am still following it and it's amazing that two years later YouView still misses recordings and cuts programmes off due to so called (in)accurate recording. I have long since given up on YouView, as a box that doesn't 100% record and regularly misses start and end of programmes is a…
  • I have just given up on my YouView box mainly due to continual missing of ends of recordings, especially CH5. I reverted back to full time to my 3 year old Humax HDR FreeSAT box, which in all the years I have had it has never missed the beginning or end of the recording. I think it uses AR but also has padding, which I…
  • Since the Feb update, fingers crossed, no failed recordings. But we have taken to not trusting the YouView box so record reliably elsewhere (FreeSat) as well.
  • My 12 year old TiVo had 2 minutes early and 7 minutes padding specially set on Channel 5 to ensure Peppa Pig (and Rolie Polie Ollie & Noddy) were recorded 100%. The strops, by my children, that occurred when any of the programme was missing..... All other channels had 1 minute at beginning and 5 at end (same as my Freesat…
  • The TV we had in the US had an antenna connection. My TV at home has an aerial connection. I put out the rubbish at home. I put out the garbage in the UK.
  • I don't think people would know the answers to the above. All my other PVRs, I just plug into the aerial, set it up and it records 100% just as people would expect it to. If my 11 year old TiVo had aerial signal issues, when you attempted to play the recording, it displayed an error message that signal was not present and…
  • Luckily my 11 year old TiVo has web accessible EPG (from my work) going back a week and can see the following recordings would have been set ITV HD Sat 16th 17:30-21:10 FA Cup: Oldham Athletic v Everton ITV ITV HD Sat 16th 10:35-00:40 FA cup highlights BBC1 HD Sat 16th 11:40-00:55 Football League Show So overlap of last…
  • Yawn...this is why YouView is not my main recorder.... As per normal all other boxes record fine (including beginnings and endings) but not YouView.
  • Failed to record Match of the Day, Saturday !!!! Humax FreeSat & 11 year old TiVo box recorded fine. So glad this is not my main recorder and is relegated to kids play room !!!!
  • As done by TiVo from year 2000 and still running today, a recording history of why things didn't record.
  • Used to love my TiVo, when TiVo supplied the guide data, as it had about 21 days future data. Fantastic for when going on holiday for a fortnight.
  • Actually my son has just pointed out a problem he encounters with padding on the Humax FreeSat box. If he goes to watch Match of the Day the recording often starts early, in fact during the BBC news sports section where the news reader gives the final scores for the match he is just about to watch.... Oh the perils of…
  • Just been reading back all my correspondence to TiVo in FEBRUARY 2001 (yes nearly 11 years ago) about lack of padding on TiVo on how I (and others) in UK kept on missing beginning and end of recordings. TiVo's initial replies were along the lines "we use PDC & other methods to accurately record, so padding is not…
  • Given up posting YouView failed recordings as almost to be expected now !! Will allow one failed recording Friday 28th as we had a power cut.....
  • Thank goodness I am not using YouView as my main recording box !!. My 12 year old TiVo managed a successful recording (with padding) as well as my Humax FreeSat box.
  • "You don't have to connect it to the internet, it will still work as a normal Freeview box" No it won't, I think it needs an internet connection to download EPG data.
  • That will be quite handy, as there are quite a lot of people who can't get satellite due to blocked view to the sky and are in poor Freeview areas, but have a decent broadband connection.
  • Same here for iOS and Android development (though no directly involved). With iOS buy developer suite from Apple. Optionally buy support from Apple or 3rd party. Develop code, release via iTunes. Any problem contact Apple, problems usually sorted (at cost). Test on iPad & iPhone (note these two devices is really all that…
  • Only got into TV & Mr Torrent when my one of my TiVo disks (2 x very expensive 80GB drives) died in 2005 on first day away on a 2 week holiday, thus not recording any Eastenders for my other half. Luckliy Mr Torrent saved the day and I was not killed by my wife...
  • It was Heston's Fantastical Foods on C4 HD, last night, was 15minutes in and rebooted. Came back up OK and now has folders for recordings and the most silliest crapiest way I have ever seen in selecting what channels appear in the guide. Programme available via Mr Torrent with no stupid 7 day restrictions. Sorted.
  • Can't really believe history is repeating itself. The original UK TiVo was launched in 2000 and it had no padding as it used PDC (programme delivery control) to time start and stop times. No padding would be needed as PDC will ensure you have accurate recordings. Well blow me down, missing start and end of recordings.…
  • Shame there is no recording history. I did post a suggestion of recording history. TiVo 12 years ago had this, and was invaluable to find out why something didn't record with items like "recorded", "clash", "user cancelled", "no longer in guide" etc. When working on later versions of TiVo software this log was available to…
  • This is how the Humax FreeSat adds padding, set via setup -> recording. Applies to all subsequent recordings. ooooo oooo has a setting for skip forward (120s default), how wonderfully useful for skipping adverts and start padding of recording starting early and completely absent on YouView box. :( This is how the TiVo did…
  • Might be a regional issue. Before digital analogue broadcasting used PDC, Programme Delivery Control, see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programm... and my TiVo from 2001 had it as well as VCR. However it was not too useful as (if I remember correctly): - Often errors in exact start and stop times so missed start and…
  • This is where "soft padding" comes in, like on 11 year old TiVo. Only add padding if it can. I suspect the Humax Freesat box does this as well, only adds padding if it can. Better to lose beginning/end of a programme rather than cancelling another programme, especially as there is no recording history on the box of why…

  • Not when its last weeks Eastenders.....The 7 day backwards EPG is rather limiting. Thankgoodness my 11 years old TiVo recorded it and thank goodness for Mr Torrent who has more than 7 days worth available
  • Has some more Eastenders failed again....though did record Red Dwarf with beginnings and endings. Not good. If my wife had had her way this box would have been straight back to shop as missing Eastenders is not allowed.
  • 10 years ago when I got my TiVo series 1 (which is still working) it didn't have padding in initial version of software. Most infuriating case of not having the end, was a recording of "Boston Law" which following the law courts in Boston US. One of the episode followed a case and got to the end... Judge went "Members of…
  • Looked at my Humax FreeSat last night. I appear to have setup, since I got it, start 2 minutes early and end 5 minutes later padding in the Recording Setup menu and I don't ever remember it missing the beginning or end of a programme. On the down side, I think sometimes you may get a pop up on screen asking which recording…
