I think you're right which is why I have decided to look at alternative solutions to meet my requirement. YouView promised a lot but has failed to deliver.
-
I have given up, and disappointed at the slow pace of YouView. I have now purchased a Sony Blu-Ray player for about £50 which has Netlix, Lovefilm, Youtube plus many others and can access files on my Network drive. Glad I never paid for the box.
-
In short no. After almost a year still no sign of this feature despite promises it will come.
-
Well a year after the original post still no sign of NetFlix or Lovefilm coming to Youview. Very disappointed with progress if I'm honest. Glad I never paid for a box.

Based on three reviews! A more in depth review here http://goo.gl/2rvPPJ

Beware 4OD, ITV, and Demand 5 are coming soon! I have learnt that these claims are not worth much. However once these players are available it looks like a good box.
-
I wouldn't hold your breath, after a year pretty much nothing that has been suggested has been implemented.
-
Agreed, in the last year progress has been minimal. Dave is the only new on demand player, which has minimal content. Still can't download on demand, still can't record Sky channels. I was hoping that Youview would enable me to be Sky free, but sadly this appears to be a dream.

I have one of the new trial boxes form Talk Talk and can see no difference whatsoever.
-
It doesn't matter what the 'standard' is, download or stream. The issue is that being able to download content is a really useful feature for both those on slower speeds and also those on higher speeds. I have a 76mb connection, plenty fast enough for streaming but I still download on demand from Sky as a choice. I set up…

I adopted YV as soon as it was available in the hope I could become Sky free. I still had 6 months left on my Sky contract so the plan was to run both with a view to ditching Sky in May. Well May has come and gone and I'm still with Sky. 2 main reasons 1. Can not record Sky channels - This is such a basic requirement I'm…
-
Filters would be a good way of listing movies, documentaries etc.
-
Piers, glad to hear that.
-
Anything that releases Sky's strangle hold is good news for the consumer. However unless boxes allow IPTV to be recorded its impact will be limited. This is my biggest disappointment with Youview as I was hoping to leave Sky, but won't be in a position until I can record the IPTV channels.

No

1. Download content during the night to watch when I fancy. 2. People on lower speeds can watch on demand content without buffering.
-
This seems a common problem in the Sussex area
-
Many use it for catchup, like you I don't enjoy sitting around a 20" computer screen to watch the TV
-
TalkTalk appear to be tight lipped on when to expect the Oct YouView update
-
The 7th Nov update was just a few bug fixes not the big YouView update
-
Have a look at this thread, I'm guessing by your username you're based in Wales http://goo.gl/0vwQK

No, I watched at the time.

I am confident that in time most of the issues raised will be resolved, and looking forward to a feature rich PVR. Considering it's anew player I think they have done a good job.
-
I've seen this reported several times on here, with people living in your area. It seems to be resolved by changing the ITV region. .
-
I'm confident that YouView will improve. Mt Sky subscription lasts another six months so by then I would hope most major issues will be ironed out. Looking forward to the box, and looking forward to be Sky free.
-
After reading this forum I am wondering the same thing. Fortunately I haven't cancelled my Sky subscription and will be running both. My ultimate aim is to bin Sky. The padding seems to be a big issue along with box freezes. I'm hoping both will be resolved soon if not in the next update. My box is due on 02/11/12 so…

That was what was confusing. I have a 20 year old aerial which is working with no problems via the freeview receiver in my TV.

Thanks for the reply
