I think you will find it is as San said but let me put ii in simpler terms. BBC One ( especially) and BBC Two have slightly different programming on the SD and HD versions. They include what are sometimes called 'HD flags' in the transmitted data when the two versions are the same. Some boxes like the Technika can be set…

It's likely you need to turn them on in a specific sequence with the one connected to your router either first or last. A bit of experimenting should let you find out which.

I noticed mine getting increasingly slow over the past week or so. I suspect that the memory is getting full as I did a hard reser and it seems to have cleared it. One of the symptoms was problems in schedules. By hard reset I mean turn it off with no scheduled recordings going on. Turn off the mains power at the back of…

This is likely an HDMI handshaking problem. The initial "Humax" and "Youview" splash screens are at a default 720p which all HD televisions should handle. After the main software has loaded, the box reboots the HDMI circuits to the default set in the menu. This again defaults to 1080p but earlier TVs may need this to be…

Important addendum to Piers' advice. If you are going to try to use a portable aerial, as opposed to a rooftop/loft mounted one; try to tune your YouView box in first using a friend or neighbour's good aerial. Do not attempt to retune until and unless you find the right position for the aerial. Whether you can get away…

I would never recommend buying any Humax again (after a series of problems with different recent boxes, both personally and reported here) without going through Richer Sounds to get their 5 year warranty. Otherwise reckon on it working for the two years guarantee period Humax let you register for. Whether the new models…

Are you connecting using HDMI or SCART? It is quite unusual these days to be able to alter the aspect ratio using HDMI. There is no widescreen "flag" signal on HDMI as there is on SCART and, as Roy said, the picture is always 16:9 with 4:3 images displayed with black bars each side. You might have a TV that allows "centre…

Kieth, to be able to record BBC One Scotland, the box must be receiving a signal. As I said before, it looks like the problems is related to more than one transmitter being available. The English regional broadcasts may come from a low power relay but the available signal from a Scottish region HD mux might be stronger so…

Sony no longer make their European model televisions themselves. They sold off the manufacturing and development facilities to firms in central Europe and Spain. Some of their lower cost models are also "OEM" televisions from the likes of Vestel in Turkey and are similar to shops own brand models. The best bet may me to…

These are almost certainly HDMI "handshaking" problems. In most cases the TV should be turned on or to the HDMI channel first followed by the YV box, in others you might have to reverse this. I found increasing incidences of it and changed HDMI lead and which of the TV inputs I use. This seems to have cleared up my…

I suspect your question is really for the BBC. Use Roger's link to ukfree.tv and check which services are being broadcast from your nearest main transmitter. In some border areas you may find that the feed from London is down so they use the Scottish feed. You may well be "in sight" of two transmitters and your box is…

PLEASE check your telecom provider's terms and conditions. Many do not allow tethering, as this is called, from your monthly allowance and you will be charged for all the data you use. This is certainly the case with 3. So called unlimited plans can also have "fair use" limits and Youview is very heavy on bandwidth.

Another possibility is if the programme can be reserved using trailer booking. Trailers for some programming more than a week ahead has a green "book me" button option shown in the top right corner. Pressing the green button on your remote control while the prompt is on screen will tell your box to book the recording.

Agreed, your contract is with the retailer, not Humax. The more people with these boxes which patently have an inherent fault at manufacture should press them. Humax have a dreadful reputation for denying faults (see my comments on the HD Foxsat above). Even worse are their charges for "out of warranty" repairs where it is…

No, the YouView box only connects to your TV using either the HDMI socket or, if you do not have one on your (older) TV, the SCART socket (but you will not get HD pictures) The Ethernet port is on the rear of the YV box and links to your internet router using a lead. Other options are available (and mostly work perfectly…

If all other channels are fine, you must be watching the SD versions of the BBC channels. Their HD channels share muxes with other broadcasters so if it were a tuning/transmission fault the other HD channels would be similarly affected. Why not watch the HD versions? Assuming that you are tuned to Crystal Palace and not…

There is a specific problem with the Humax T1000 series boxes where on startup they do not boot properly and freeze on the "please wait" sequence. This has been reported a number of times in the various fora about YV boxes. My own suspicion is that it is a hardware fault likely associated with sub-standard components in…

The suggestions I have seen appear to be focusing on HbbTv compatibility for YouView boxes. The BBC seem to be looking to MPEG-DASH to deliver IPTV services in future - they are using it in the current UHDTV trial alongside the DVB-T2/H.265 broadcast version.

YouView boxes also have filters in the EPG - just press the blue button and choose the genre you want. Part of the problem is that other than the BBC, broadcasters do not use the HD flag which is available. Even the BBC are lax at managing it - frequently they leave it on during regional opt-outs on BBC One where it is…

Appears the forum software has a bug!!

Interesting, my Samsung Note II phone did not show them but my Samsung tablet did. After uninstalling and reloading, it works fine. That would seem to be a solution for anyone having problems but remember you do have to re-link your device to your YV box.

Not on Android either - the apps clearly need an update

The data appears to be being added for 12.30 onwards which is likely down to the broadcaster. The basic schedule is now up but the i button details are not yet appearing. The latter could be a question of YouView not getting their act together quickly - as you may notice, there are differences sometimes in this detailed…

Sounds like a dodgy connection. Have you tried using a SCART lead to see if it is the HDMI output rather than the rest of the circuitry? The usual warranty for Humax boxes is 2 years however those in the pre-launch trial had a one year warranty from the date of delivery. Was this the "free trial" you refer to? As a general…

What we have been teased with is the prospect that YouView will become HTML5 compatible which should improve the range of services as the new Freeview Connect standard will also be based on it. As Connect TV is owned by Arqiva, there is an incentive for YouView to progress it.

The DTT HD general entertainment channels have their own sequence and de facto prominence in the EPG to reflect their positions on LCN 1-4. Five could have had 105 but declined three times to start transmitting 5HD so lost the prominent spot on LCN105. On the subject of 5HD, there seems to be nothing to stop Viacom…
