I'm not playing any game, Martin, and I don't appreciate being accused of it. Why must you be so unpleasant?
-
Specifically how you think the requirement for the LF-funded project and BBC programmes to be accessible without a subscription is in any way fulfilled by having to pay BT a mandatory monthly subscription of at least £5 you get a box from them BT broadband customers can use YouView FTA services without paying a…

Martin - I don't know why you seem to be taking my question personally. I didn't delete my post in the other thread in which I raised the question. I did delete a subsequent post, because gwatuk had rightly objected to his thread being veered off-topic. So I apologized and started a separate thread - this one. It isn't…

Visionman asked Sorry to ask a stupid question but whats the whole point your trying to make? As Martin said, he has interpreted the Trust conditions as requiring retail sale of the box. I'm now wondering whether that really is the case. I'm not trying to prove or disprove anything, I'm just trying to understand.
-
majones - did you have a look at the wording of the BBC Trust document I linked to? Do you think it stipulates that the box has to be available for retail purchase? The relevant section reads as follows:Free to air always 1.20. This approval is given subject to the "free-to-air principle", that users will always be able to…
-
Yes, thanks Piers.
-
Sorry gwatuk, I will start a different thread.
-
You can use a YouView box on a free-to-air basis if you subscribe to BT broadband. I believe the same is true for TT.
-
Sigh. I rephrased it, Martin, in response to your objection. OK?
-
I said: It was the Trust that set that condition. Actually, re-reading the BCC Trust document, I'm not sure it does say that the box has to be available for retail sale. It says users must be able to access Canvas (YouView) free-to-air, though they may be charged for additional pay services, the one-off cost of the device,…

"the YouView box's two principal customers"
-
Roy said: I'm sure they didn't intend it, but it seems that the BBC have done us a disservice here :-( Roy, do you perhaps mean the BBC Trust? It was the Trust that set that condition.
-
True, but the difference is that consumer power is a huge factor for Sony, while for YouView it isn't. Sony simply have to resolve the problem, whereas YouView can get away with just saying, sorry, yes, you'll lose your recordings. Because the loss of customer recordings is not something that unduly bothers YouView's two…

WRT the humax timings. I haven't seen anything to back this up. Most of thr S-t-S timings for Humax were unfortunately off a single unit, but I have not seen anything else that suggests they were off by more than a few secs. You're probably right. I readily admit I don't really understand what exactly should be expected –…

I was very happy with my box, till it failed. Then I lost all my recordings, because no fix was available. Not been so happy since then.
-
Excellent - suggestion and prompt implementation both starworthy, if only Get Satisfaction would allow.
-
drhowells 22 minutes ago As has been said before in other threads, it is unlikely that the broadcasters / partners want this facility to be available to YouView users. Indeed. They don't want you to copy via SCART, let alone via USB. See p12 of TalkTalk's helpful PowerPoint presentation from 2011 at…
-
Yes, I agree, the box just wasn't ready for retail sale, and still isn't. But the BBC's participation was conditional on the box being available for purchase, AIUI.
-
You can only be let down if there's some kind or promise or contract or undertaking. BT/TT customers are being let down by their ISP when their ISP-provided YouView box doesn't perform well. Owners of trial boxes aren't being let down by anybody. Only retail purchasers are being let down by YouView, and unfortunately…
-
Doran did say it may have to be considered. About the most it would be sensible to say in a response to a customer complaint. Also, mayn't the OCE have a point about Humax boxes as well as Huawei being affected? I may have misunderstood but I thought the Humax recordings for the same program should have been of identical…

As the article says, it's really 6 months free and 6 months paid. Equivalent to £15.55 per month. It doesn't seem that different from the deals you can get direct from Plusnet. Personally I don't rate JL's service highly anymore, having been badly bitten a couple of times.
-
It reflects badly on You View that there is no moderation of this low-level bullying. I agree. YouView seems to have surprisingly little PR awareness when it comes to its forum.
-
Perhaps it's your BT TV service which has to be activated. The YouView box (I found out he hard way) searches for a configuration file when it connects to the Internet. BT perhaps have things set up so that activating your TV service ensures that the appropriate config file is available for your box to download.
-
Yes, the OP posted in the wrong forum and unfortunately quoted the error message, which keeps attracting others to post in the wrong forum - even when they notice it's the wrong forum. Because YouView also has an ITV Player, which also has some problems, it's confusing to have a thread about a different ITV Player, with…
-
??? Why post the same question twice? If you don't like or don't understand the explanation I gave you in your other identical thread, ask further in the same thread and someone else will probably respond eventually.
-
You are right but there's also a lot of useful information about YouView posted in this forum – sometimes by the same people who at other times descend to flaming – so it's worth keeping an eye on even if you don't choose to post.
-
Think of it the other way round: if you want 100% of the sound level emanating from your tv, set the YouView sound to 100%.
-
Here you are. :-)
-
Well said Roy – I'd give you a star except oh wait, the GS software won't let me because it's Wednesday, or because it's raining,, or because you typed your remarks in a box labelled "Comment" instead of "Reply"....
-
Brent said Not really sure why this (ITV player) Q is posted on youview.com - but I just Googled the 'error' I have via FireFox v20.0 (2nd update in month, and current) and saw the same error asked about here - so thought I'd dive in too - as I'm still getting the same error that the OP asks about ... It's off-topic here,…
