A lot of smart TVs have a great deal of extra functionality that's just not well designed, implemented, cohesive, or nice to use. The TV manufacturers are falling over themselves desperately trying to tick as many boxes as possible for potential purchasers, but quantity does not equal quality. Some potential purchasers…

It's not perfect, but personally I'm very happy about paying BT a fraction of the overblown charges I've been paying Sky for the last 20 years, with little loss in content I care about. Competition is good, and satellite may still be the dominant subscription channel delivery method today, but the future belongs to IPTV,…

The new recording stuff seems to be working great. I noticed a subtle change which is that when watching any recording, hitting Back causes it to go back to the expanded display in the recordings list rather than the flat list. This seems better, plus you can still hit Delete in the expanded display to delete the…

So if the iOS app gets its information direct from the YouView box, why does it not take into account channels that are hidden in the EPG? I find the app a lot slower and less useful than it could be, simply because it shows a load of channels I will never watch.

I don't know if the problem is fixed or not, because on my BT box I switched to using Eco Low and it works perfectly. Hidden channels stay hidden, even after a retune, which as far as I am concerned is the correct behaviour. There may still be an issue with Eco High mode though.

I'll try that later, thanks.

I just found this topic after posting another one about surround audio not working on other channels. I guess BT Sport HD channels are also Dolby Digital Plus?
-
Somehow I guessed this was going to be Channel 5 related :)

We can but hope it's because another BT-focussed update to allow recording of IPTV channels is not too far away...

My BT box updated yesterday - from 14.1.0 but only to 14.2.0. Are BT boxes on a different schedule, so won't get 14.5 anytime soon? I note that 14.2 has been described as fixing issues with Panasonic TVs but it doesn't seem to have fixed my occasional issue where the picture is displaced to the left by about 10%. Just…

I see something similar occasionally on my Panasonic TV. I have overscan turned off on my TV, and what I see is that the whole picture is shifted left, cutting off the left hand side, and leaving a black border on the right hand side. I tried it with overscan turned on and the TV tries to compensate for the picture problem…

I've got 74 hidden channels and 71 visible, so I'm not keen on provoking it into losing the hidden channel settings again I'm afraid. Presumably you do have test facilities for stuff like this ;-)

Update on my BT box: several days on, and Eco Low seems to have cured the forgetfulness so far. It does seem likely that Eco High overnight was triggering the problem.
-
My BT box did actually behave itself when using Eco Low rather than High overnight last night. It did not forget the hidden channels, nor the Internet channels, and as a bonus did not have the screen size glitch I have been getting on my Panasonic TV when I first turn the youview box on. All that would be great, except for…

There's another couple of people with the same issue by the sound of it here: http://community.bt.com/t5/YouView-fr...
-
1) It has 14.1.0, and getting the box to check for an update says "You currently have the latest YouView software installed" 2) Yes, it says "Please wait while the channels are hidden" or something like that, and the channels are hidden afterwards, until the next day 3) I am not turning the power switch off on the back,…

Being able to record them is one thing that I really want. But if they don't also fix my issue where some days the box forgets that the extra BT channels have been set up and makes me do it again before watching one, it won't record them successfully anyway.

I've now tried setting the TV to 16:9 but it didn't make any difference. Still have a black border on the right hand side at startup, fixed each time by toggling between 1080i and 1080p. What with this, the box regularly forgetting the hidden channels and forgetting the BT extra channels, and finally a complete lockup…

I have an issue with my Panasonic plasma in auto mode (I will try setting the TV to 16:9 later and see if it goes away). The issue I have is with the geometry of the picture when switching on the YouView box. There is always a black border on the right hand side of the screen on all channels, and even on the YouView…

I only got my BT YouView box on Friday, but I am also having the same problem. I am not unplugging the box, just using Eco High standby. It is also forgetting that I have set up the 'extra' channels, I have done that three times now.
