Should read DVD uses component video with MPeg2 coding.

@Roy is quite right Betamax was superior to VHS in many ways but was killed off because it’s market penetration was just not as good. Betamax has much better colour noise performance and had a vastly superior C-wrap transport which was more reliable than the M-wrap system used by VHS. Betamax evolved into Betacam and…
  • Just to add to the above replies the behaviour depends very much on the devices connected together. As &Roy has said make sure BraviaSync is turned on. I have two Sony TVs, one Android and one much older standard Sony. Both will correctly turn the TV on and ‘pull’ to the correct input. Neither will switch the TV off.…

Losing Eurosport is the one thing that puts me off spending the extra to move over. I watch Snooker and Tennis a lot so losing Eurosport is a big deal.
  • The real problem here is the loss of History, Nat Geo and Discovery from all the platforms. Sky has created their own equivalent channels. Not sure what Virgin is doing but it’s clear with the NowTV Deal BT will at some point in the not too distant future remove channels like W and Alibi as examples from their platform and…
  • Yo be honest it’s the sort of thing I would expect from Sky. Be interesting to see exact wording though (if it exists). I suspect they’ve said exclusive and mean it in the sense that they’re the only Pay TV platform in the UK to have it as a native App. Wilf
  •
I hadn’t spotted this before but can confirm it works. Just done it on my AF8. I think earlier builds of Android didn’t support this feature hence my earlier comment. Wilf
  • Hi you need to do a factory reset and reinitialise the TV picking the FreeView option instead. Wilf
  • This is great news for the wider YV community who mourn the loss of the native mobile app. I am a BT customer but as always used the native app rather than the BT one because it went straight to the guide and was easy to use. The BT app requires you to click through several screens to get to the listing grid view which is…
  • No which seems quite an omission especially since this has apparently been in testing for some time also as reported elsewhere the watchlist simply won’t launch the programs selected. Wilf
  • The problem is that not everyone has access to Internet with bandwidth sufficient to cope with more than one HD stream never mind 4K. That’s likely to be the situation for some years to come. Wilf
  • As has been indicated previously there is no demonstrable evidence that BT have forced the closure of the app. This seems however to be the narrative that users of this forum seem to want to encourage in order to have something to rail against. There are many possible reasons why YV may have gone down this route and…
  •
Is there real evidence for this statement? There is much more to distinguish the BT app from th YV one than just the remote record facility though admittedly as a BT customer I had been using the YVapp rather than the BT one for its pure simplicity. I suspect the real truth here is that YouView are simply cutting…
  • No one has ever suggested that this isn’t possible so I’m really not sure why feel the need to say it.
  • @goodbye is quite right. Another factor is what’s actually connected to your mains supply. Anything which can cause noise on the mains or spikes will potentially cause lost data packets and thereby cause drop-outs and pixelation of subscription channels.
  •
My mistake. I had wrongly assumed that people who subscribe to TT or BT would be using provided hardware as opposed to retail. My point really was that anyone who aren’t using IGMP subscription services should find PLAs reliable.
  •
Thanks Tim. Your comments are spot on. All I would clarify here is that the only subscription services I’m currently aware of that rely on IGMP are actually the extra channels which BT and TAlkTalk supply via the YouView platform. For that reason YV users with retail boxes without such services are unlikely to have…
  •
Might be worth pointing out here that anyone using a retail YV box with PLAs should be completely trouble free. Only boxes supplied by BT and TalkTallk which have IGMP subscription channels are likely to experience difficulties. Wilf
  • I’ve used Aztech ones and this wasn’t a good experience because multicast packets kept being missed. My belief is that this is vey much down to distance between units and whether your mains wiring is electrical noise free. This is less likely to be the case in older properties. Worth saying that I’m still using the PLAs…
  • Yo’re absolutely right insofar as this does attenuate the infrared noise so to speak. I suspect anything which translucent but not totally clear will work. I just happened to have a piece of grey cloth available which worked for me. Wilf
  •
Or why not point to the help area and have the release noted available from there permanently on the box itself. Great idea. Wilf
  • My line only manages a little below 16Mb so UHD from BT is never going to happen. I’m about 2 miles from the cabinet and the handback on the line is 12Mb so this is as good as it gets for me (no VM in our area). That said the Amazon app on the TV will happily play UHD/HDR content with no issues so I get some 4K content.…
  • Hi all, I‘Ve acquired a new Somy Bravia TV. I’m also in the probably unusual situation where my broadband speed isn’t adequate to support UHD but I do have a T4000 box as supplied by BT themselves whilst they were investigating an unrelated issue. I have experimented with switching the box output between 4K and 1080p and…
  • Hi Richard, There is a known issue where Infrared from Plasma TVs affects the performance of the remote with the DTR2100 boxes. I and others have responded about this issue a number of times in the past. Simple answer put a bit of grey cloth in front of the sensor at the right most end of the set top box and this…

Richard This is interesting and also the sort of thing that I would anticipate causing the problem. Sadly though in my case I didn't have anything in the existing list or hadn't added anything which would likely have been subject to a schedule ut we do regchange. Yes moist of the stuff we record is mundane freeview…

We all know that these features which we’d all love to see reappear worked on ‘old-gen’ but have not appeared on ‘Next-Gen’. Given that on the face of it only the UI is effectively changed to HTML5 but the underlying interface to the hardware is essentially the same as it always was for currently supported boxes I’m…

I can say with certainty that it did not disappear of its own free will. It disappeared because of a coding error somewhere Which was exposed by another event be that user initiated or by another part of the code. Understanding how the code behaves is key to understanding and Diagnosing the problem. I’ve been…
  • Rolling back is only viable if you know which version of the software introduced the problem. Bear in mind that new versions of software may have had other code which is essential moving forward so rolling back could derail future plans. Its easy for us to assume that the most recent maintenance release caused this problem…
  • It might help YV dev team if we could report what the program was that that you were attempting to add to the scheduled list. My suspicion is that the list is actually being updated correctly since the new items record but that the list can’t be rendered on screen in the normal manner possibly because the list contains…
