Whilst I love YouView, I have hated the cat-herding difficulties between stakeholders that have resulted in bad decisions like this closure of the app, at a time when I think the EPG should be being integrated into the voice search for Google and Siri/AppleTV! The 2014 review by the BBC of YouView considered that the iOS…

So retail purchasers can’t remote record 😡 afaik!
-
Really disappointed by this. The only suggestion made is that Users move to BT. :'(

TBH I've played with it on appleTV and it's OK but I won't be paying for it. Content is king and they don't have the depth (yet). I doubt it'll come to YV. They've pushed it onto some (android?) devices but I think YV's a bit niche for them. Also YV app development has hardly been the most active. YV has the best recording…

If you can find one of these on ebay it's the best solution that I've found as it combines the extension lead with the powerline. Sadly they're rare beasts these days.

Hurrah!

There should be a utility for your plugs that would allow you to check their operation. Eg Devolo cockpit. Check for one relevant to your make of plug and it'll tell you if they're working correctly. If they are then it may be the cable.

Good thinking that the router might not be allowing the box to connect correctly. Are you using a Plusnet router or another one? When the humax box is on does it appear in the list of 'connected devices' on the router's control panel? I don't have the correct router settings to hand but they should be available online.

Please let this be true. The wasted hours of fast forwarding... :s

To be really rather dull (and as an ex-mobile-phone company accountant): At the time that you enter into the contract (assuming no activity in the cooling off period) you get ownership of your BT box and a liability to pay BT. If you cancelled on Day 15 you'd keep the box and have to pay off the remaining liability. At the…

BT TV Contract section 17(d) https://www.bt.com/terms/post3rdjuly2016tv.html "If you keep the service that the set-top box came with for at least 12 months, you won't have to pay anything for the set-top box when you end the service." and their boxes work perfectly outside of contract except that you can't get the…

Per https://ukfree.tv/transmitters/tv/Redruth "The Redruth (Cornwall, England) mast is not one of the extended Freeview HD (COM7 and COM8) transmitters, it does not provide these high definition (HD) channels: 4seven HD, 5STAR +1, 5USA +1, Aljazeera English HD, BBC Four HD, BBC News HD, CBeebies HD, CBS Reality +1, Channel…

Not too get overly technical but be aware that Ainstable and Caldbeck are on different alignments: one is horizontal, the other vertical. If you've a directional aerial you will need to turn it 90 degrees to get "the other" transmission. (as well as pointing it in the right direction of course)

Agreed. Any mass market device has to be SWMBO-friendly. If the Recast plays nicely with Amazon's PrimeTV app on apple TV (and its unified search) then it may be the incentive for us to move away from Youview.
-
This device has a similar idea but the app isn't highly rated and though it works with a Plex subscription that's an extra cost again. Oh, and the recordings are unencrypted.
-
@Visionman Not sure what your "no" is in relation to. Most manufacturers went down the route of "let's encrypt everything to only run on the one box" but as ever YMMV. The old Humax boxes only recorded SD but allowed uploads over USB. I think the Topfield had similar. Not really sure about the modern ones. The decision to…

*/GeekMode True Use the free HDHomerun software on a Windows, Linux or Mac for saving to USB, transcode if you need to, then take it to the friends or the coffee shop. Any DLNA capable TV (list of device) should be able to read the live stream off the HomeRun. I don't think any TVs can save the .TS files directly to USB.…

Dunno. Previous attempts to post just bounced. In 2010 Ofcom were talking about introducing encryption onto one multiplex but that seems to have stalled.
-
The current Ofcom spec is that to use the brand names Freeview or Youview the hardware has to encrypt any HD recordings. Last time I looked it was a requirement (certainly of the BBC) that the Free-to-air channels are broadcast unencrypted. IIRC they are allowed to encrypt the guide and now/next and accurate recording…
-
If recording transferrable HD is what you want to do I would recommend Silicondust. Other solutions are too frightened of "enabling piracy" to allow the unencrypted saving of HD streams.
-
I'd also vote for the ability to jump to specific time in a recording. At the moment it's like being back in the days of VHS. It does feel daft to see duplicate channels (HD & SD). The viewer only needs one listing with a transparent option along the lines of: "Press {green} to switch HD/SD *warning this will clear the…

A couple of points. The 'Freeview Play' recorders are quite decent and offer a similar functionality to Youview. However I don't think that the interface is as good, as fast or as legible. Pros: the Panasonic does have wifi and thus no need for the homeplug adaptors, plus it'd do Amazon Prime video and 4K Netflix. Cons: It…

Apologies in advance but it will depend upon what he wants to do. Assuming that he wants to be able to record programmes and watch them later (as opposed to just streaming or watching live TV) then Youview is (IMHO) the best all-in-one solution. To put it in place he will need: i) An aerial capable of receiving the…

Maybe there's some stuff 'under the hood' but this is a pretty minor update. A reduction in a time delay and a redirect from the end of watching a programme are hardly two month's work. The more intelligent information bar is a plus but I have to reiterate what I really want: 1) An ability to select a point in a recorded…
