I will second the maintenance mode 4 reset suggestion, it seems to fix most things for me including this. My bugbear is that after a few days of not being used, i.e. switched out of standby, except for recording stuff while I am away or otherwise occupied, the machine crashes and therefore misses recordings. Last time this…

Very interesting to me too. My YV box crashed once again yesterday and I have missed a few recordings over the last two weeks due to lack of use (I have visitors). With the old YV becoming more unreliable, I'll be considering this or similar as a replacement, maybe as a Christmas present to myself?
-
I would hesitate to blame the update for this - the earlier boxes were notorious for the unreliability and short lives of their remotes. I don't expect that the newer ones are going to be much better. Try buying a third party replacement?
-
Me too, although I haven't been away for a while now. Seems daily use keeps it going . . .

For some reason, YouView boxes don't have any WiFi. You have to connect via an Ethernet cable, or an Ethernet cable from a powerline adapter. The retail boxes used to come with a pair of powerline adapters provided, I don't know if they still do. They usually cost about £25 per pair, if you shop around for them. WiFi…

@Lebowski. You likely need to tell us what device this is on. Having said that, I assume your 'soft reset' is a simple power down reset. If you search on here for how to find the 'maintenance reset' it sounds very much like the sort of fault which would be sorted out by a 'level 4' 'keep recordings' reset. That is only…

Not so individual, as I had the same problem after the 28.35.0 update as well - or rather the next day after it. Coincidence is always possible. Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action . . .
-
@Sarah. Yes, thanks for repairing that link. Yes, my box seems to have been doing the same things. I put the original behaviour down to leaving the box unused for more than a day or so, whilst away for a few days, and I sometimes came back to missed recordings if the lock-up had happened after the first day away. The…

Gremlins are BACK! I noticed I had got the new software on my T1010 yesterday. Today, the box would not switch on (again! grrr) without a power down reset once more. My level 4 reset some weeks ago had supposedly cured this, after the previous 'upgrade'. Do I really have to do that again?
-
So, what does the Freeview PVR not have that Youview does? I'm struggling to see any drawbacks to tipping my YV box in the bin and buying one of these, except the cost to me and the planet.
-
No help to you, I'm sorry, but I've given up entirely with catch-up on the YV box. I now automatically go straight to my Roku for all those channels including iPlayer.
-
Hi Charlotte. This was also happening to me a while back, and also I was getting failed recordings and sometimes came home after a few days away to find the box 'locked up' and needing a power down reset to restart. All these problems were fixed by a 'Level 4 reset' from within the menu system. This is the highest level of…

I only ever had one Ultraviolet film, and never could get it to work. Seems to be a USA focussed system, and very convoluted.
-
Oh what a joy it is to do the 'maintenance reset' [irony]. Only the full factory reset which loses your recordings seems to be available through the normal menu system, so I had to find and follow the instructions "https://support.youview.com/youview-box/box-and-remote/using-maintenance-mode#" When in maintenance mode…

Sadly, I no longer have a mother-in-law to give mine to . . .
-
Thanks AK. I'll give the appropriate reset a try then before my next trip. Glad it's not just me . . . but I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
-
Thanks for that Sarah. To be honest, I did wonder if it was Ch4's problem all along, it only occurred to me that it could be the NextGen when the Sony complaint came in. I have rarely used All4 before that, so it wasn't a fair comparison. For what it's worth, it hasn't happened on the few occasions I've used the Roku, but…
-
The two I can remember are "The Handmaids Tale" and "Fargo", both the first episodes, as we had not noticed they were on. I think it was during Fargo that we gave up, and went into the Roku instead.

Hi Sarah. My box tells me that it is a Humax DTRT1000 Type 80B07000, although the label on it says DTR-T1010/GB/1TB. Component software 3.2.62 and Manufacturer software 28.26.0 From memory, I think I have been going into All4 from looking for the program in the guide, and then going to Players and Apps to find the earlier…

Roy - was I ranting? I can rant if you want me to: I have just returned from a few days away and once again come back to a totally unresponsive YouView box. This seems to happen every time I have been away, but only since the 'NextGen Upgrade' that destroyed most good things about the box. I was seriously considering…
-
Hey I've got a retail YV box by Humax and get the same effect, but not always. So it's nothing to do with Android, it's YV rubbish again!
-
I am so piffed off with YV that I'm not even going to watch this piffle about the future. I'm concerned about the NOW and how awful their attempt at 'upgrade' is.
-
"more like the tiles than anything else in CurrentGen ever was." BUT, it does not include the useless image showing a random picture that may or may not be recognised for the program it relates to. Maybe, if a tiled layout is compulsory, larger tiles with only writing in would be more acceptable. I don't see what is wrong…
-
@redchiz. What I would assume was wanted, was what Keith described, returning to the episode you have just watched to make the decision whether to delete, or not. Going back to the oldest only works if you *always* delete ones you have seen. Not everyone does. And anyway, returning to the tile for the series, rather than…
-
But Kieth, correct me if I am wrong on this. The latest corrected release (I don't have it yet) has changed the journey out of a recording to put you back to the series tile, and then into the 'oldest' episode rather than the 'newest', which is not what was wanted at all?
-
@David. Have you a link?
-
@Daniel, I don't like the idea of buying a new remote every two years or so - they should last longer than that, even if they cost more (which they don't unless you buy the all-singing all-dancing making-tea).
-
Sadly, the remote controllers supplied with the Humax YV boxes have a limited life, and no changes to the UI can really compensate for that. You do need to buy a new remote. I played around with mine for a while, opening it up and cleaning the contacts etc. I even tried the aluminium foil trick. All to no avail in the end,…

Yeah, sorry I should have realised that. Mind you, YV software 'engineers' chose to use the GetSatisfaction rubbish forum service.
