@kodikid What are you on about? The BBC cover plenty of sports which are sponsored. In fact I can't think of any that aren't.
-
Yeah, I'm aware of all that, I was just trying to offer a brief explanation to those who were crying "unfair" which I found an odd reaction. Just my personal view.
-
Is it not a simple matter that Freeview are forever losing airwaves to mobile data courtesy of Ofcom, rather than anything "unfair?"
-
No problems with my speeds, or issues with live football in 4K on Prime. Or BT Sport. Will look at settings later as you suggest @Roy, but as I said I have not observed this with any other source.
-
Interesting. A quick look via the onboard iPlayer on my LG TV showed to my eyes a somewhat darker/flatter looking picture in UHD. Might have a tweak with picture settings. LG 4K pictures from other services e.g. Disney+, Prime Video are uniformly excellent.
-
@Roy Yeah, i get the bitrate thing, less of an issue as broadband speeds improve generally, although fluctuation will continue to occur. Of greater importance perhaps is for those who can see the difference between 30 and 60fps, sadly I am not one of them. @Visionman What can I say? Bargain! What make/model is it out of…
-
Please elaborate? I wasn't aware that Blu-ray went above 1080p? Unless you mean Blu-ray UHD of course, which does indeed have a resolution of 2160. Exactly the same as 4K streaming.

There are wireless options, I have a wireless sub with my soundbar.

@Roy My first NICAM set was a humungous 21 incher by HITACHI. When it arrived I excitedly scoured the listings to see what upcoming programmes were to be broadcast in stereo, by no means a a given in those days and duly appended with a "N," so I could put it through its paces. I was somewhat nonplussed to find that my…

@Roy My earliest memories of a TV are from back in the 1960s at my nan's house and it was very much like a piece of furniture, a beautiful rosewood case in the "sitting room" (we didn't have a "living room" in those days, that would be the kitchen) which was regularly polished along with the wooden sideboard. Hiding behind…

OK, no evidence of that on my mum's venerable Panny, misuse perhaps, too much Ceefax? 😉
-
Really, why not? They were boss back in the day, would love to see a 4K version, would kick any LCD out of the park.
-
OMG yes, that went well!
-
Ah, "flat screen TV's (sic)," remember that bizarre passing phase for curved screens, wtf was all that about? 😆
-
@kodikid Ah, do you remember the advent of NICAM, when TVs had two rattly speakers, instead of just one? TVs these days strive to be as thin and flat and bezel-less as possible which of course tends to make sound quality somewhat secondary.
-
As we drift ever further off topic, I hope nobody minds if I join in? 🙂 How reputations and perceptions have changed over the years. Does anybody remember when renting a TV was the norm, to cover both their notorious unreliability and massive upfront cost, back in the day? Sony were undoubtedly the leaders in the later…
-
Ah, OK. Try Google for reviews and comparisons. Other search engines are available.
-
If you're serious, then unless you watch up really close a full HD 1080p set should be a fine choice. If not, then what are you doing?

@kodikid Here you go: https://www.richersounds.com/sony-bravia-fw-32bz30j.html

Wow, that's really interesting @Roy. And no indication of any enforcement, other than breach of T&Cs. I thought this was a half-arsed idea, it doesn't even measure up to a fraction of that.
-
I thought you already had dozens spread across your palatial estate? 😁
-
I tend to agree, which suggests that Netflix were flapping around with some really desperate ideas when their bad numbers started coming in. I fail to see how buying Roku could be seen in a different light, a management that doesn't seem to know how to stem the tide.
-
And haven't Netflix made some slightly sinister noises about clamping down on that? Although how they would do this remains to be seen.
-
Possibly, but that applies to most subscription services does it not?
-
£6.99 in SD, one device; £10.99 in HD, two devices; £15.99 in 4K, four devices.
-
I am not happy to pay £6.99 to watch in SD on my 4K HDR TV, but thanks for the thought. 🙂
-
@Visionman £15.99 a month? No thanks. Hard to swallow.
-
Thanks @kodikid, it was worth it just to watch Brief Encounter again. 🙂
