Thank you for this very informative answer. Indeed I'm receiving FreeView from Rowridge. My polarisation is normal (elements are parralells to ground). I checked ITV Local News SD. It was the same as the HD version. Both were transmitting ITV Meridian for South East, instead of South Coast. I will try to check with another…

(2) doesn't require a dedicated iPad app. A modern, HTML5 responsive app will work as requested. It would fit/grow to the available screen size.
-
Is it me or the new version shows programs set to record, which are set by the app and not by the box?

"It's been said many times on this forum that the responsibility for the problems rests with broadcasters, esp. C5, rather than with YouView. " Responsibility for a UK designed and sold PVR to work in the UK correctly rests with the designer & seller of the PVR -- period! Know your environment and design it accordingly. If…

"The feature of auto padding seems to have been requested for months and if 8 year old boxes can do it then why can't a brand new box like Youview? " It is not that YouView can't, they won't! YouView believe that padding is an obsolete method. The fact of the matter is, they cannot make even make their own partners agree…

Maybe just semantics, but the software is in fact still pulled. What happens is the box periodically connects to a central server and checks for a download flag. If the flag is set then the box downloads and installs the new software. On push, there is no need for periodical checks. The device and the server is always…

Isn't force update a pull?

since when you answer on behalf of YouView?

"New software for the YouView Humax box is now available and will be rolled out across all Retail and BT boxes over the next couple of weeks." YouView, can you explain us why you need a 'couple of weeks' to update just thousands of boxes when almost all computer companies update multiple millions of computers or…

"things change so fast that it is not possible to keep technology in shops at the same level of bug-free-ness as it would be if things didn't improve so fast ! " Some should tell this impossibility to Apple who release a new product every six months or so and work as advertised, bug free.

I am not having freezings anymore but I am having hangs that last 30-60 seconds relatively often. They seem to occur when two simultaneous recordings are done. You select something from the remote, screen goes black and after a minute picture comes back on. Or the unit stops accepting remote commands for a while.

I didn't know that there is no surround on the Talk Talk box. I apologize.
-
"on my Huawei box, changing to surround sound does the following: 1) Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is output (according to my amp) instead of PCM stereo (but ONLY over the optical output)." Adrian Wood, my experience is not like yours. I can get full 5.1 encoded DD signal from the optical SPDIF output. I do not know why you are…

"the YV box could potentially record three or four programmes simultaneously (albeit temporarily to avoid recording conflicts) if one or more of the other recordings were on the same Mux(s) as the first two. This would, of course, further reduce the potential risk for recording conflict which would, in any case, be so…

"My Wife is not happy because 3 out the 5 recordings she has made have been cut off too early so she missed the ending." Andrew, why don't you tell your wife to call the broadcasters to sort their broadcasts? It is obviously nothing to do with YouView that she had her recordings clipped. Some people had emailed the…

Which of my answer(s) you classify as aggressive?
-
How would I, the viewer know?
-
But do you want repeats too, which is the subject of this thread?
-
"I don't know if I've fully understood Sarumbear's point" What is it there not to understand? I don't want repeats of the same episodes recorded and placed in the same folder as if they are new episodes.
-
"I could post something important and relevant but I can't be arsed" though he was "arsed" lol

"I see no further reason for posting here" says he on his post LOL

we all know why YouView box fails. I'm not disputing that. what I'm saying, and you are disagreeing, is YouView should device fool proof methods so that recording don't fail. I believe it's not my job to 'tame' broadcasters so that YouView box works. you disagree.
-
redchiz, most likely Martin, I disagree but you know that already so why bother replying to my posts?
-
Obviously tags alone is not working as AR alone is not. Why insist on relying on those alone? Invent something that works instead.
-
"...until I emailed UKTV and they fixed it." YouView seems more and more like a crowd sourcing project created to tame broadcasters. LOL
-
It says "New American Idol" without the colon for new episodes and "American Idol" for repeats.
-
Of course it's the box. it's the box that is recording something that I have not asked for. If the box puts episodes that are named differently under the same folder whose fault it is? If the tags are sent wrong why not check the episode name as well? I haven't selected recording by its tag. I selected by its name. it's…
-
But, as I said above, in my case the repeated episodes are not even named the same. New episodes have the word 'new' whereas the repeats don't. Doesn't the box checks episode names?
