  • Agreed. That was weird, I was just watching Glasto recording (People's Favourites) over the network from my wifi enabled Freeview Play box (FVP-4000T 1TB). I feel your pain brother, I did this too to a series on Youview (after pressing back thinking I was at the recording I just watched, as it used to be) and was the final…
  • @Andy Bush There is a SAMBA option but I have this turned off (it's off by default as is FTP) as it's pointless really as you can't play the encoded files directly. No idea if it's v1 or v2. Only use I can see for SAMBA on the FVP-4000T is transferring recordings to another box. I only have the DLNA 'Network Server'…
  • @redchiz On Windows 10 shows under 'This PC' in Network locations and has folder with all the Recordings in it. Simple copy/paste the MPEG to the desktop/phone/tablet. There are other ways to access it as I explained before but this is the easy option for folk. Any DLNA enabled client should be able to play the recordings…

  • You can also use the DMS (DLNA) option in Network Location, but that's way too easy and no fun. Simple copy/paste. I wouldn't use the USB option as it's way too slow (takes as long as watching it to copy, so must be real-time transcoding going on).
  • @redchiz "But I still don't see how you can export off-air recordings? Which of your other devices have you managed to do that to and how? Genuinely curious now." It's easier on Windows 8.1 (Copy/Paste from a Digital Media Server windows explorer view) but possible on Win10 by copying the WMP/DLNA properties stream into…
  • @Visionman I am aware of the pause delay which is no biggy in my book. The EPG info is accessed via the OK button a different process, again, no biggy. Saying they all are vastly inferior to Youview is your opinion and as someone who has been on Youview for the past four years I now prefer the FVP UI over Youview, if they…
  • @scott, ah, so you can watch HD recordings on an external offline device downloaded from Youview? excellent stuff. (scratches head) I can watch catchup HD if I want but if going any distance I can take stuff with me, Youview does not allow me to do that (except record remotely, as does FVP). Catchup is great unless you are…
  • @Visionman I don't have anything against tiles, I do against truncating names on tiles though, FVP has the programme name under the tile which gives the best of both worlds. Glad you can read my mind from there though.
  • Works fine over the network, USB is too slow though, I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. Download via the network is very quick and reliable, earlier versions were buggy apparently. @Visionman do you have a FVP-4000T?
  • @redchiz no misrepresentation intended. FVP-4000T allows download via Media Server capability that presents a MPEG2 downloaded file or via the much slower method by USB that can be copied direct from the Recordings screen to a USB stick (FAT32 formatted), can also batch copy/archive series to USB. Only works with SD…
  • @redchiz merely a statement of fact that I could do something on Freeview Play that Youview can't. I also didn't say Freeview Play was superior, you said that. If I am the newbie, you are the Gold Badge community member who replied, I didn't ask you to. I would have thought someone with such a highly regarded status on…

  • But enough for you to post back? Yes.
  • @Visionman and @redchiz The plane example was just that, didn't take long for you guys to have a pop though, did it? and HD is not everything unless you're watching on a big screen. Not even going to dignify a response to your questions. I am happy on Freeview Play and not going to get into silly Youview fanboi games.
  • They certainly improved my journey....onto Freeview Play where the UI grass is greener and the ability to download SD recordings (in MPEG2) onto my other devices so I can watch them anywhere, like an entire series while flying to Australia :)
  • Much cleaner and easier to read and can group by Channel, DOW & Recent.
  • How about Youview changing stuff for the sake of change? to the detriment of the customers experience, making them leave their service because of it? No amount of fan boy slap downs can change that in my book. When you mess up you need to fess up. Youview have their head in the sand with their hard to read picture tiles…
  • Bought a Humax FVP-4000T (Freeview Play), great box, can record 4 x channels + watch one and can view content remotely within the house using the Humax Media Player, FTP. Has Netflix and all other OnDemand services that Youview has and more. Sorry Youview, you have lost a customer of 4 years through a badly implemented…
  • @Roy "So what 'watch on demand' feature have you lost, exactly?" Unless there is an issue with my box, on the old version (prior Next Gen) under 'i' / Info there used to be a 'Watch On Demand' if it was a repeat and you missed the start of the programme. Right now on the new sw, under 'i' from watching a channel (or from…
  • FWIW, I wasn't having a go at you 'redchiz' but venting my anger at Youview....sorry if I came across as a bit annoyed, I am. If I did something like what Youview has done, I would be sacked on the spot...just saying. I appreciate it's not the programmers doing this as they do as they are told, I am still horrified though,…
  • Yeah, way to go Youview.....Bye!
  • I really miss the old interface, the pictures for me, are a killer (and slow on the uptake). They really need to add a 'No Pictures'/'Text List' option in Appearance. Pretty sure I am not alone on this. Yeah, missing lots of features, I miss the 'watch on demand' feature the most. Looking to replace my DTR-2100 with a…
  • I should have mentioned that I can't watch recordings on channel 7 or record An La news programme that is on every evening stuck at 0 time, all other times are OK....bug? or hangover from the upgrade that can be fixed with a reset? done a soft/hard boot. Seriously hacked off with this upgrade.
  • The only thing, and I mean the only thing about an internet EPG is that any changes are updated very quickly as opposed to an OTA EPG which can take quite a while to update. That's my experience anyway. Yes, old gen was in the cloud for EPG/Info but now it's pulling images down now, so more reliant on the cloud now than it…
  • I made the fibre speed comment as I know someone who is on 512kB ADSL and the pictures are...well...not good.
  • BB speed is 40MB (Fibre), only just been changed in the past week, much better since. I made the fibre comment as I know someone on ADSL of 512k and pictures are not good for him. The Recordings screen feels clunky, mainly because of the tiles though, was much better with the old text list, speed is about the same but hard…
  • I have a DTR-T2100 on v27.50. The major 'NextGen' UI change which IMHO is a masterclass in how not to release a major SW upgrade and how to hack off a large proportion of your customers. Most people (me included) were not aware there would be such a major change in the interface. How about 'A new version is available,…
