Live pause and rewind problem

Since the May update a couple of times now I have not been able to pause or rewind live TV. I checked that I was not recorded other channels at the same time. Only power cycling the box seems to clear it, until the next time. Has anyone else encountered this?

+1 from me - I've been watching Sunday Brunch on Channel 4HD this morning & have just been unable to rewind (my eye was caught by chocolate covered bacon).

I recall a similar occurrence earlier this week, but don't remember any details of when or on which channel.

I've now switched channels to Channel 5 (haven't yet rebooted) and have been able to rewind ...though a few minutes later, back in real time, it's failing once more (still on Channel 5, incidentally).

I'll give my box a reboot, which will probably free things up.

Chocolate covered bacon? Surely an occasion for FF not rewind. :-)

Oooh, I dunno - I'd give it a try ...chocolate with chilli or sea salt both work for me Smiley

I would however draw the line at that marmite chocolate stuff. That shiz is just *wrong*!!!

Yikes - I'll stick with the deep-fried Mars bars. :-)

I had a problem with the live rewind function the other night. The rewind became stuck and i had to change channels to stop it. It seems that the rewind fix for recorded programs that came out with the last update doesn't apply to "live rewind".

What,

You never tried bacon covered in chocolate. You've never lived.

As we all know,

"everything tastes better with bacon"

We could invent a new food association game - 'Six Degrees of Chocolate Bacon' :-)

Another occurrence just now, my box has been idly sat in the background serving up BBC1HD for a few hours - I've just hit rewind, and nothing. Picture simply jumps back into real-time.

...Briefly change channels & come back to BBC1HD though, and rewind's back in business.

Box has been well behaved this past week or so, yet here I am with Sunday Brunch once again on 4HD and I'm finding myself unable to pause and/or rewind.

YouView was fully powered-down overnight and has had a second reboot today after first failing to rewind ...all seemed well again for a certain length of time, only to exhibit the problem once more.

As always, if I briefly change channel & return this will free things up again for a short while.

I can't imagine why the channel & programme should be anything other than coincidental, but my box really seems to not like Sunday Brunch.

- I know I don't like it when food repeats on me, but I don't see why YouView should object ...I'm trying to recap *cronuts*, dammit(!)

1PM UPDATE: Briefly switching channel since ceased to resolve, issue present regardless of channel within a moment or two.

Box given a further 8-second restart ...issue persisted.

Recorded programmes also refused to play at this point (suggests common thread related to hard drive?).

Box given a full power down & restart ...so far so good once more.

Me too, I have notices it occasionally (about one a week) but I haven't been able to find the circumstances to recreate it.

I reboot (long hold on the blue circled button on the front), and that seems to fix it (until the next time!)

Aaaaaaaaaaannnnnnd, Sunday evening and it's back to playing up again(!)

Pause/rewind failing as before - I'm currently recording from two channels: 4HD (Terror in the Skies) & PickTV (Glee), I'm watching 4HD live.

Having had a problem playing a recording earlier today, with this issue flaring up, I've just been into MyView and attempted to play some things back (also wondering if the recordings were actually being carried out, as I'm starting to suspect a disk issue):

Attempting to launch Terror in the Skies (the ep currently recording) failed with a "Playback Complete - Playback of your recording has ended" message.
Next I tried to launch Glee (the ep currently recording) - playback succeeded.
Next, another programme recorded completed previously - playback succeeded.
Back to trying to launch the Glee ep once more - playback succeeded this time.

So, recordings appear to be running to plan ...but switching back to live TV on 4HD sees my box still refusing to pause/rewind.

I have a rather confused Humax it seems.
Other recordings are set for this evening, so I'll wait to see whether they succeed along with seeing whether those I have running currently record in full.

MONDAY MORNING UPDATE: Box fully powered down overnight. Once back up & running, all yesterday evening's recordings confirmed as successful. Also launched a couple to play without problem.

Live TV initially ok, pausing & rewinding on cue ...yet within a couple of minutes, back to refusing and simply bouncing back into real time. Recordings now failing with "playback complete" errors

Changing channels resulted in pause/rewind ability returning briefly ...refusing once more within a couple of minutes.

Ten minutes or so now since box initially powered up and I'm finding pause/rewind failing universally, recordings continue to error.

My box is a retail T1010 and was updated to software v13.4.0 on June 18th, a week or so after the problem first manifested.

Wondering if I should I go with one of the maintenance mode reset options?

My apologies for seemingly hijacking this thread. Smiley

Since this morning I've taken my box through three maintenance mode resets:

Software reset
Factory reset (keep recordings)
Internet recovery (keep recordings)

Each time my box has come back and reverted to failing to pause/rewind within 15mins or so ...I'm no farther forward.

One thing I did notice (after one of my numerous resets this afternoon) is that if I caught things within those first few minutes of starting up, I could pause and then time shift backwards & forwards seemingly indefinitely so long as I remained behind real time ...As soon as I catch back up with the live broadcast I can no longer pause nor rewind.

My playback bar consistently shows a blue line of x amount of minutes reflecting how long I've been tuned to a particular channel ...but I cannot use that buffer to time shift into.

I'm loath to carry out a maintenance reset which deletes recordings without any reason to believe that doing so might effect a different result ...equally, I don't really consider my box "broken".

What have I got here - a software bug in need of a fix, or a faulty box in need of replacement?

I've gone as far as I can with this now - I bit the bullet yesterday evening and ran a factory reset (delete recordings), I also later ran an internet recovery (delete recordings).

In fact, I've now been up & down that menu and run various maintenance resets but to no avail. This box will no longer trickplay from live DTT broadcasts.

I can't fathom why only this functionality should be affected unless this were a software glitch - yet (other than the OP's experience), as nobody else is reporting this I can only conclude I have a dodgy box ...I very much doubt I'm the only YouViewer out here using pause & rewind, after all(!)

Ho-hum, back to my retailer. Again.

I have just had some additional symptoms.

I was recording a program and watching at the same time (not recording anything else at the time)

I tried to rewind before the end, but old problem of not allowing me to, so I thought no problem, as I am recording it I will just go to the recording and FF to the place I wanted to watch again.

Each time I tried to play the recording it popped up a dialogue saying something like "the recording had finished" (sorry I didn't note it down) and wouldn't let me.

I had to wait until the recording had really finished, to then play it.

One of these, Andy?:

I started seeing these on Sunday evening, alongside pause/rewind failing on live TV ...not quite as persistent, but still prevalent and not cured by any of the maintenance mode resets I'd carried out.

I've been in touch with Humax directly today and have a new box en-route ...no other option, really.

Have the same problem as you DM, had it for 2 days and box only 4 months old.
When it plays up and you try and watch a recording does the box freeze and you have to reboot?
